<< China has been taken over by a fascist dictator, has united the country, and has just invaded Russia. To the east, they have invaded Japan, and the Chinese fleet is currently headed towards the United States for a full-scale fight. >>

Fsck yeah I'm going to enlist and defend my home to the limit of my abilities. To me that means the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and probably just a defensive role because of the general wussiness of this country's military, but I'd jump at the chance to be launched off an American aircraft carrier to get into the thick of things. I'm already sitting here gritting my teeth at the suggestion that anybody would even THINK of heading for North America with conquest in mind. You better believe our respective air forces and navies are going to put anyone in a world of pain.

That said I don't think it's fair to ask people to enlist in a "political" war overseas as vaguely as this, though it does seem right to support your country and your leader no matter what once the decision to send men has been made. I don't know, it's just tough.

<< updated the pole for you pansies who refuse to fight. >>

how about adding "4-F / too old / already served" ? (or add 2 with "already served" on its own?)

I'd vote "Go ahead and sign up" but it's too easy to say so when I know they wouldn't take me (too nearsighted).

Well it would depend on what we were fighting for. Knowing the US though I'd probably pick the Canada option.

There is a huge difference between the military age youth of today and those of 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. The young people of today think far more of their own welfare than they do of the welfare of their country or countrymen. It's a sad time.

It seems like you're immortalizing here, easy there. I'd guess, just on my experience as a human being, that they probably thought they were gonna go off and pull some John Wayne act, become a hero, get laid, and all those pretty things. 30-50 years ago they didn't have the same level of media that we do now, so they really had no clue as to the horrors of war. Not to say that anyone who hasn't been in a war does, but from the pictures and the accounts, we have a pretty good idea just how terrible it is.

Then I'll salute you a year from now bombrman.

Osully: What is political about defending yourself against terrorists? Don't tell me that you want to negotiate with them. There is no desire for negotiations on either side. Negotiating means that one side or the other is willing to give up something.

FACT: They want to kill all Americans which means they want an end to Western culture.
FACT: We people of the Western culture don't want to be killed. We must, therefore, defend ourselves against those who want to decimate us. In order to protect ourselves we are attacking our adversaries as close to their homes as we can.

We didn't start this. They did.

We will finish it, one way or another. Don't push us too far.

Oh, I'm just speaking about the context in which the war is seen by naysayers, as an political exercise or whatever. You've got to be pretty well mis-informed to believe that there's any reasoning to be done here.

Invade North America?

HAHAHAH

I would probably watch the news broadcast of them getting blow up by our unmanned and remotely launched weapons.

Or they realized that their country had been attacked and defeating the attackers was the right thing to do, not try to weasel out of it. Happy Puppy hit the nail right on the head.

How about an option for people who have already served/c an't serve/can't serve again kind of situations?

Having just read the exact scenerio you suggest, my request for a new option doesn't matter...if fighting comes to our shores then everyone can fight, rather they're in the 'military' or not. So under those circumstances I'm definately fighting one way or another.
