Would you install vista with these specs?

I got vista ultimate when it came out. (Student discount before I left school.) I want to try a new OS and be on the bleeding edge, but my specs are kinda low from others point of view with vista.

939 3000+(@2.1ghz)
1gb ddr400
6800GS 256mb

I game alot, mostly BF2 and I use the pc for my PVR/HTPC. (I want to try the new MCE :D)

Would you install vista on this? If not, what would be holding me back?

I know ram, and maybe CPU, I want to get a opty 165. The only problem, my mobo jetway a210gdms locks up about 240mhz FSb. Thus not much of an overclock (about what im getting now 2.1)

Thoughts?

CPU would be okay but ram would be a bear especially if you have any sort of programs running in the background. I'm finding that even on my core 2 duo 7200 laptop its slow going when it first starts up and it has 1GB of ram....going to be getting another 2GB this week to get it back to XP speeds :/

Yep like the others have said, definitely get more RAM.

I had 1 GB in my machine with vista at first, and it was "ok" but very frustrating at times.

I currently have 2 GB and will be increasing it to 3 GB when I get home today. It makes a huge difference in performance.

I would give it a shot for sure if you already have it. 1 gig of RAM is kinda the minimum, but you can get by on it untill you can add another gig.

itll run vista fine. you might turn off transparency but it should run areo good otherwise. 1gig of ram is fine for basic tasks and media centers, but if you use the machine a lot for different things get two gigs definately. 1gig is really not bad at all with a couple gigs of readyboost (corsair flash voyager GT readyboost that is)

If I was in your position, wanting to game, I wouldn't. Vista IS going to take a bite out of your video card\CPU performance, so I'd wait until I could afford a more general upgrade.

To go with what everyone else is saying, you've got a great PC with another gig of RAM. I've got an X2 4200 with 2gb RAM and an X1950 XT (used to have a 7900 GT, ran fine as well). Went back to XP because Vista was having trouble with ET: Quake Wars beta, but overall Vista is pretty good for how young it is. Up the RAM, and I have a feeling you'd even have a better time on XP (BF2 is definitely a memory hog!) as well
