what if terrorists start learning hand combat skills and it's a low occupancy flight?

If there are no witnesses, and it's a life and death situation, it is no longer a violation of man law to target the groin, even in the opening blow

You should watch "The Flight That Fought Back" on A&E. Some of the 9/11 a-holes did just that.

I feel safer now knowing I'm surrounded so many e-heroes in this thread.

its not being an E-hero. at least for me its more of not wanting to die. I can take getting my ass kicked or getting cut. I live with daily pain from health reasons. its easy to ignore once you get used to it. heh

but death? OK I'm a pussy. i admit it. I do not want to die..ever. And if i see someone on a plane doing something I'm going to think back to 9/11. I don't want to be a human missile.

Promises to be a hero are worth less than the time it takes to make them.

The only heroes on that flight were:
1) the flight attendant who called for help
2) the first person who came to her aid.

The rest were opportunists with good intentions at best.

I have no clue to as what others do also i do not expect anyone to do something to protect me. that is left up to me.

I just know in a situation where my life may be in danger and the only way to protect myself is to fight i will. I don't want to be a hero. I just want to live long enough to see my kids get married and have kids for themselves.

I highly doubt after 9/11 that anyone would successfully hijack a plane by threatening passenger to stay still and do nothing ever again.

I wonder what would have happened had the actually managed to open the door midflight. Is it even possible?

The smaller emergency doors are about 2.5 feet by four feet (estimated). That puts them at about 1440 square inches. There's about a 10 PSI difference between the outside and inside of a plane at 30,000 feet. So that's about 7 tons of weight on the door. The larger door, where he most likely was is probably closer to 15 tons of weight.

That's a lot of pressure indeed, but isn't the inside pressure higher than outside? Meaning it would be easy to open/blow the door out?

The doors open inwards. Not outwards.

Ahhhh!

I would definitely knock that sucker out or die trying. I wouldn't even have to wait for the flight attendant to ask for help. :p

What if terrorists start removing their genitals before missions?

Do nothing, death is assured, fight back and you might survive. I'll take the fight. Especially if they only have box cutters or fists.

Anybody threatening others with death had better be ready to die themselves. That's the deal.

I'd absolutely go for a kill, not merely restraint. Probably would break their neck as soon as I could be sure the bad guy couldn't hurt others in the process.

I'm physically 6'4", very strong & in excellent shape, & have the confidence to attack.

A lot of people tend to forget there are other possibilities of weapons that aren't banned on flights. Keys being pretty nice, cell phones can be thrown at the face, and I'm sure someone with an artificial limb could lend a hand (sorry, pun was intended) Shoot, even high heels can be painful.

I tend to agree with the others, it is going to be very difficult for a terrorist to take over a plane again. For one, passengers won't allow it, two the big door between cockpit and passengers won't allow it. The worst they will be able to do is try the explosive bit they just attempted a month or so ago.

I'm not sure whether I would get involved or not. I like to think I will, but I have never been in such a situation, except maybe the fight I broke up in high school; but even then I was 6 feet they were 5'6" tops.
