Most of my 'helping' has been putting fatally injured animals out of their misery, but one time I cam across a doe that had been hit, and was in a corner on a rainy night in the mountains. She was sitting up, looked OK, but was right on the fog line on the inside of a curve. She could have easily flipped a small car cruising the line.
I parked where my flashers did some good, and rushed up and put her on her feet from the back side away from those hooves.
She limped off into the dark, but was looking better as she went along.

Not strictly advisable, was it? And yet, I just couldn't have driven on, doing nothing. I wouldn't have been thrilled to be risking a skunking, but I couldn't have turned my back, either. I just couldn't have.

Coming to the aid of people or animals in peril or distress . . . it isn't a matter of wanting to be a hero, it's a matter of living with myself if I didn't.

It comes down to this: I refuse to live in fear, and I refuse to turn my back on those in peril, even a skunk.

You?

what I do for the skunk or not would'nt be motivated by fear.

I'd help it. Pretty easy. Just throw a blanket over it and it will calm down. Then scoop it up and nudge it off the road.

Experience -> trapped and released ~15 skunks over the past 2 years.

Fuck that.

I'm sorry but I only feel empathy toward cats and dogs and I would probably stop to help if one was injured.
But skunks, possums, racoons, groundhogs, rabbits, etc.?

Not worth my time.

Sorry.

Couldn't help but think the background in the video looked familiar ... and sure enough its in CT about 1/2 mile from my daughters house. Small world!

And I'd like to think I'd help the skunk.

I would help it. Although i would be extremely cautious and put some clothes over my head in case i get sprayed upon.
I would get the cup and run like hell.

A real friend, sitting safely in the car and laughing.

Also I've never smelt a skunk, how bad can it be?

It's not a bad smell imo, but it's *INTENSE*, and doesn't want to go away. I've never had the /pleasure/ of a closeup demonstration, but I've smelled them in the road, and it travels a long way.

Any common items that smell similar to give me an idea?

Strong marijuana is the closest I can identify. Seems like there's some varieties of boxwood that have that scent also, but I haven't been able to reliably confirm that. It's earthy, musky, and has an almost metallic tone to the scent. I can't really compare it anything very common.

That doesn't sound that unpleasant really, but I guess its all about the fact that it doesn't go away I suppose.
