Purchased a new home... it's 5000 sqft (it's way big). The down stairs is like a total different home. Kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 3 different rooms... etc. She is paying like over a grand a month to live in an apartment. I told her she can come live with me. I am getting a divorce so I am alone in the house. Her being her should not infringe on anything. May even be nice to know another is in the house. It is way to big for 1 person.

What do you guys think about this?

If you have a good relationship with her and she does not have special needs.......... then go for it :)

Personnel choice big time. Even considering it says you're pretty cool to me and must have a good relationship.

BTW how are you keeping the house going though the big D? My ass would be thrown out and I'd have to get an Apt... least that's what happened to my brother. Dudes a pharmacist ..makes like $60 an hour and can't even afford a girlfriend.

I got left quite a bit of chase stock when my other gram passed away. I have 2 houses that are paid off. still not sure if the bitch is going to get 1/2 of the other one.

Like others, I'd say it's really your call as it could work out either way depending on your personalities and the layout of the house. You're getting divorced now, but what about when you're dating in the future (or now, if you are)? Also, your grandmother doesn't have special needs now, but at 80 she could start having them any time, so that's a concern also.

Still, it could work out well so it's well worth considering.

Her developing problems in the future is one of my greatest fears.

Well, she'd need someone to help her. It would be a PITA for you, but it's kind of your job. Your family's job anyway. It could be a rewarding experience in itself.

If she were still alive, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Yeah, mine's been gone for about 12 years...I imagine she's pretty smelly by now. :p

(she was 98 when she died)

My mom moved in with us when she was diagnosed with terminal liver and colon cancer. That was tough.

You can help make sure she'll stay as healthy as possible. If things come up in the future, deal with them when they occur.

I'd recommend a first floor bedroom & bathroom for her, if possible. Worst thing that can happen to the elderly is falling, especially on stairs. You might want to add some extra grab bars around the tub or shower & treads in the tub, if necessary.

My first gram that died was a terrible experience. She had to come from her home in Louisiana to Utah. She lived with my parents and hated it. I was her only confidant. I did everything from feeding her to helping on the toilet...yeah, it sucked. But, when you love someone you kinda put everything aside. I am not as close with the gram that is moving in here, but there are many others to help her out if she goes down.

I would think that her saving $1000/month on rent would allow her to hire a personal part-time nurse if need be. I say go for it.

Good luck with the divorce. I went through one too a couple years ago. I think its a good thing not to be alone during the process.

Now is your chance to become closer, you'll never get the chance later on.

I miss my grandparents & would give up everything to be able to spend even an afternoon with even one of them again. Do it.
