I know a lot of Wangs. Isn't it pronounced Wong though?

wtf I never heard that before

I've been told that Wang, Huang, and Wong are the same name.

no. they are 2 names. wang and huang is different.

edit: actually wang and huang are the same in cantonese that is wong...

p.s. my last name is not wang.

I was told on two separate occasions that "Wong is Wang" and "Wong is Huang", so I just assumed that Wang is Huang too. Faulty logic :(

I've been told that Wang, Huang, and Wong are the same name.

You do realize that they have to translate Asian names into the Latin Alphabet. There isn't always a single way to do that.

Edit:

So according to Wikipeida: "Wong is the Cantonese romanization of two common Chinese surnames; Huang (?; literally "yellow") and Wang (?; literally "king")."

So, Huang and Wang are different. Wong could be either name.

huang doesn't literally mean yellow. it's hononym literally means yellow, the actual word for huang means royal or something, like "huang dee" which means emperor.
