Would you go for P3 700e or P3 750e ?

I have narrowed my search for these two chips.

No thunderbirds, duron, or celery for this system.

Would you go for 700e or 750e ?

I WILL overclock.

if the price is really close, i might be tempted to get a 750E.

You'll probably get a very similiar overclocking "ceiling", albeit the 750E will run at that speed with a lower FSB than a 700E will.

I already got p3 700 right now. Running super stable at 1030, even 1050. I will have a chance to swap out for a P3 750. I will test the new chip and see the overclocking situation.

Just want to know the public's opinion.

700e, you have a much higher chance of hitting 933 then you do of hitting 1ghz, even 933 is iffy, however, a 733 means your sol, you have to crank the bus up real high to overclock that chip. However, you cannot change the multipliers on any P3s, unless you have an engineering samp, which I doubt 😛. So your stuck cranking up the bus really high. The 750s have been known to hit 1ghz, but you really need to heavily cool them for it to be a sure fire overclock. And by heavily I don't mean golden orb.
 
The p3 700e is probably better. Plus if you do reach +1ghz the system will be running faster than the 750, because of the higher fsb, which, means that your memory will be running faster. I'm running my p3 700@1ghz and I am only using a golden orb to cool it. I can take the cpu much higher with my PEP66 and 72w peltier, but the noise from my 38cfm Delta fan is really annoying, so I don't use it.
 
Also, the reason I bought the 700e was so I could just buy a better heatsink with the difference in prices and then that will in turn help me overclock and have a little changed left over.

The 700 will win with a higher fsb.
 
700e, for one reason. even if both processors reach the same exact speed, the 700e will be a bit faster than the 750e due to the higher fsb. (143 vs 133)

of course, if you can reach a fsb of 143 on the 750e (1073mhz) you will be even better off, but the odds of hitting 143mhz fsb with the 750e are less than those with the 700e.

 
I got the 750e already...

It can only boot to Win2K at 125 FSB 1.85v @938 Mhz ... not any Mhz more.... boooooo...

So I am gonna stick with my P3 700e @ 1050 Super Stable.

I know my chip can do more. But I always try to shoot for 133Mhz bus speed at first bootup. I know my P3 700 was unstable at 1Ghz ... but it was super stable when it first come out of the box at 933Mhz. After about 2 weeks, it is super stable at 1050 Mhz.

Anyway... I might burn in this 750Mhz chip and we'll go from there 🙂

Seems like the cbo core is maxed at the low 900's to me.

Not dening the 1000 or 1100's that show up but I beleive these are just exceptional chips and not the norm.

1st try
pIII 650 at 910 fsb 140 on asus p3v4x

2nd try
pIII 750 at 930 fsb 126 on soyo 6ba+iv

so ordinary chips ( not the exceptional few) of the cb0 core seem to like the low 900's better.

This is really to small a sample to be scientific just a gut fealling. Oh by the way gorb on the 650 and alpha on the 750. Mem on the 650 muckin pc150 cas2 and memman select 133 cas 2 on the 750. SO should not be problems with these components.
