Would you get/stay with T-Mobile today?

I've been a T-Mobile customer for about a decade now, and haven't had many problems. I really need to upgrade my phone ASAP, but I'm kind of hesitant to sign another contract with TMO with the merger looming.

Anyone else re-up or newly join recently and not worried about the future? I can't imagine anything significant would happen even in the next year...but I'm pretty cynical. What say you guys?

I was going to switch to Tmobile myself... but it turns out that's the one carrier my Work doesn't pay for. So I ended up on AT&T. I really don't think you should worry about the merger, there's no way they will stick you with a phone that doesn't work on their network. They will have to work out some kind of trade in or something to square you away when the merger happens.

AT&T will likely give you a pretty good deal or the same deal when the buy out is approved.

I'd go ahead and re sign, see what they offer. If they change the terms materially, you can opt out.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I just get caught up in the FUD sometimes.

Similarly, I can get a work discount with Sprint. And they have that $125 credit for new users. I'm not terribly brand-loyal, and $300 saved over the contract could sway me. I'll probably go check out the Photon and see if I like it as much as I like the Sensation.

Nope. Every time I see that T-Mobile girl doing her ad on tv I comment that her job is almost gone and Her contract is soon up for non renewal. LOL

Am with them now. Price/service ratio is better than others. Not getting reamed, they take good care of me.

No.

My company gives a 20% corporate discount for Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon...Both voice and data.
No corporate discount on T-Mobile, period.

Im sticking with them unless it gets ugly, then I would go with a non contract carrier and say screw em all.

I'm in the same boat. Been with T-mobile since they were omnipoint > voicestream > t-mobile. I have grandfathered features and services and right now both of my lines are out of contract and I don't know what I want to do.

I need some new phones and possibly upgrade to a smartphone to join the 21st century...

Same here. I want either the sensation or the hercules, probably get both, one for me and one for the son.

Because you don't need the discount. Sorry but 20% off of an $80/ month plan is still more than the T-mobile $49.99 unlimted everyhting plan.

Those of you that are leaving t-mobile because AT&T is going to buy them are the ones that are making it easier for AT&T to buy them. With people leaving en mass, they are devaluing the company.

I've had T-mobile for at least a decade and I don't have any issues with them. Their prices and CS can't be beat. I left Verizon for T-mobile and never looked back.

I agree with this. If we're all lucky, AT&T will grandfather our T-Mobile plans once the merge is done. If they don't, they'll probably give some kind of deal, or at least allow you to leave with no ETF (assuming there's still time left on your old T-Mobile contract).

I just re-upped for a myTouch 4G Slide. That'll last me AT LEAST till the merger, then I can get something nice on AT&T, or cancel and go with Verizon.

I actually want to go to AT&T. But I rather cancel T-Mobile and then signup for AT&T rather than through the merger. I just hope the merger is stalled til my contract is up.

Depends on what you're looking at.
Not everyone needs unlimited voice+text.
I only need 450 mins or less with unlimited data.

T-Mobile is only good for shared family plans or people who also want unlimited voice/text package.

I don't give a crap shoot about unlimited "everything" plans.
Go and compare the cheapest voice with unlimited(2GB or more) data available then come back to me.

Verizon: 450 Minutes + 2GB 4G data +250 Text = $74.99 without 20% corporate discount.
AT&T: 450 Minutes + 2GB 4G data + 1,000 Texts = $74.99 (If you get rid of the fraud known as text messaging, it's $64.99...Text messaging is not mandatory) without 20% corporate discount.
Sprint: 450 Minutes* + Unlimited data/text = $69.99 without 20% corporate discount.
* Unlimited domestic calls from the Sprint network to and from ANY U.S. mobile phone regardless of carrier. Any network, any time.
T-Mobile: 500 Minutes + Unlimited Text + 2GB 4G Data = $69.99 per month

T-Mobile $49.99 unlimited everything plan for individuals???
Please show it to me because I don't see it on their website. Either I'm blind or you're making shit up.
Thanks.

It is one of their new value plans where you have to buy your own phone. http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/value-plans.aspx

Also keep in mind for most people VZW and ATT only give you a discount on the minute plan and maybe data ($10 off). They do not give you a percent off the full bill.

Almost anyone can get a t-mobile discount (10-15%) by joining a credit union or from school. Most major corporations also have discount with t-mobile too.

I guess I'm blind. This is what I was looking at, which showed family and not individuals.
http://deals.t-mobile.com/unlimited-family-plans

So you spend $500 on a phone to save $20/month for 24 months...

Okay so new comparison for me is this:
Verizon: $67/month over 24 months with corporate discount + $200 subsidized high-end phone = $1808
AT&T: $51/month over 24 months with corporate discount + $200 subsidized high-end phone = $1424
Sprint: $66/month over 24 months with corporate discount + $200 subsidized high-end phone = $1784
T-Mobile: $49.99/month over 24 months + $500 for your own unsubsidized high-end phone = $1700

The $200 subsidized phone shouldn't even be $200.
Wirefly and Amazon does many deals selling them for $50-130 or less very often. Sometimes, even free.

a) Jesus...I didn't expect Sprint to be that expensive...The new $10/month 4G smartphone tax caused that...Wow...So much for them being cheap.
b) I didn't expect AT&T to be that cheap...I thought people said they charge an arm and a leg?
c) Verizon is exactly what I expected...Overpriced. After 7/7, corporate discounts applies only to $50+/month data plans. If they didn't do that, it would have been $61/month. I can't wait for FCC to mandate data sharing among the carriers. No wonder Verizon is suing them.
d) Pre-paid is an option for me and I'm strongly considering it. It needs to be either a high-end phone I like that they sell that's fully unlocked or something I can bring my own device to though.

You forgot to add texting to the ATT plan. That is why it is $51.

I would still do the t-mobile $50 plan over any of the options you listed. I can get a almost brand new (used 2 weeks) high-end phone from XDA-devs for a lot less easily. Or if you already have a phone. That and texting + data is important to me. Your VZW and ATT options would be way higher if you added unlimited texting.

Either way I am going prepaid. $45-50/month with no taxes + unlimited talk, text, and enough data is a winner.

T-mobile prepaid, simple mobile, virgin mobile, H2O wireless, straight talk are all better value options than going with a postpaid plan on the big companies.

Also, sprint is cheap if you want unlimited everything.

I don't need texting...I can use Google Voice and other apps for that.
If you have unlimited data, you can use that data to both make a phone call and text. If I added the AT&T texting plan which gives 1,000 text for $10, it would only cost me $7.80 extra with my corporate discount. I probably don't send/receive more than 30 texts a month. Google Voice is free. I can either port my number to it for unlimited texting or just give people my texting number.

I don't have a smartphone yet, however I'm interested in getting one. Still using my LG Voyager here...

I agree.
The moment the FCC mandates data sharing among the carriers, I will give my middle finger to the carriers. If PagePlus starts offering data, that will be the end.

That's the problem...I don't want "unlimited" everything, and I don't need "unlimited" everything.
300 minutes a month voice plan is good enough for me, 100 text/month plan or using Google Voice for free is good enough for me. I just need unlimited data(or as near unlimited data as possible).
