Would you get a wallmart type job?

Uhhh...aren't you 29 or something close to that? Why don't you try and get some kind of skill and get a real job? You don't seem like a stupid person, why do you keep bouncing around unskilled jobs?

Not sure how much of this is true but this is walmart we are talking about so it would not surprise me, more I believe the bathroom than remote hq temp...

sportage is an anti-corporation moron, take anything he says with a grain of salt.

any legit, honest job is a respectable job imo. I'd work at Walmart or even McD's if needed. heck if they paid better, i'd quit mine and go there..easy work.

Go for the retail job, part time, get a student loan, finish university/go to college. It's no guarantee these days (believe me) but it will open doors in the future.

While a degree is not necessary to get a good job if you're motivated and lucky, it certainly helps.

If it was the best job I could get, of course.

Oh I'm about 95% sure I can get something better. But I'm about 70% sure that I probably won't try in my current circumstance. Yes I DO need my parents to kick me out but that's not going to happen.

Get the job at Walmart then. At least it will get you off your ass. You can still look for something better while working there.

i have more respect for someone working at wally world than someone sitting on his ass collecting an unemployment check because hes feels like hes too good to work there.

You have some programming skillz, right? (You show up in the Programming forum occasionally, so I assume you do.) Look for an open-source project you can contribute to. Sure, it won't get you money. (Unless you make your own project that's either closed-source or on your own web page with ads.) But if you do it right it'll look really good on your resume.

Note: This need not be mutually exclusive with another job.

Not collecting an unemployment check. Living off my parents. Worse or better? Again yes they need to kick me out but they aren't going to.

Software engineering has negative unemployment right now, but I still don't think that's a good idea. It will become an excuse for Locutus to stay at home and do nothing.

Yes some limited programming skills. Been a long time since I did any coding though. I think the most complex app I ever did was a tic-tac-toe game with a computer AI, and a database program for my father to record his book collection. I like the idea of working on an open source project 😛

I want to learn some programming, and my first goal will be porting some Gnome panel apps to Xfce. Install Linux, or run it in a VM, pick some software, find a deficiency, and fix it. DeadBeeF is a cool music player, but early in development. You could write plugins for that.

Will need to work my skills up to that level. One way of course would be to take a look at some open source projects and see how others do things.

Wal-Mart isn't that bad, it doesn't pay well and you have to deal with stupid people, especially management, but I rather be working and earning my own money, even if I still depend on my parents for support such as housing.

I don't think you will last at Walmart, because you actually have to work and it eat into your nefing time.

IMHO, it is best for you to move out to another city far from your helicopter parents and get a construction labor job where they treat you like shit so you will appreciates what your parents have given to you. Perhaps then you will be able to focus with your education and hold down a job.

I wish there was a "like" button for ATOT

It certainly helps in this economy. Most employers won't even bother to look at your resume if they list a minimum degree qualification. With that said, I've personally met people who were dumb as rocks and had college degrees.

Funny cause when I was working at 7-11 I worked damn hard. Harder than most of the other employees. And if you don't think there's much work at such a job you don't know much.

I haven't had the impression from anything that Locut0s has said that makes me think he has no work ethic. Social and anxiety issues? Yeah. Unusual family circumstances? Sure. But I don't think there is any reason to believe he's lazy.
