Would you get a P4 3.2E or A64 3200+

I'm just sad that it takes 4 hours to convert from divx->dvd w/ an A64 @2.4ghz, but only 2 1/2 hours w/ a P4 @ 3.4ghz.

i wonder if we could figure out a way to get into a ATI/NVidia arguement here as well!! Maybe a little Windows vs. Linux as well!!

haha

In a thread in the Video forum, I was debating whether to "upgrade" from my current 9800 Pro to a 6600GT for $20... Conclusion was I went for it for $10 "🙂"?

what's wrong with an ecs mobo? they do their job and are reliable. 🙂

I've worked with 2 x P4 3.0E + ECS PT800CE combos, one had trouble and the other's perfect

I've only worked with one ECS 755-A2 motherboard, but I was able to o/c an A64 3000+ 2.0ghz to 2.3ghz, and an A64 3200+ 2.2ghz to 2.42ghz.

ECS is by far known for their Socket A offerings.. (K7VTA3, K7S5A), but the above combos are what I'm dealing with right now.

I think you should just get a Pentium MMX running at 75mhz. I heard the MMX technology lets you do multi-media faster! With the Pentium MMX running STAR WARS: REBEL ASSAULT 2 is a breeze.

GOOD LUCK ROOKIE 1!

There is no such thing as a Pentium MMX 75MHz. The MMX models were available at 166, 200 and 233.

Ok... what was in the original post. Apparantly the deal has changed.

I had a choice between 3 Combos (they all had ECS motherboards)

Sempron 3100+ for $150
A64 3000+ for $204
P4 3.0E for $204

now the combos are:

P4 3.2E for $214
A64 3200+ for $214

I use both a 3.0P4 w/ht and an A64 3000+.

That said.

P4 is not much better (if at all) in multitasking from my point of view. In the end I would go with the cheaper of the two models, I doubt you will notice a difference.

A64 is faster all around and excels at plenty of encoding. Intel more but you must select right app for the processor with either one. I would refuse to reward intel for putting out P4E hottness when thier previous processor was much better.

Wow. It's hard to find a NC 3200 review paired with 3.2E... but I found one. http://www.behardware.com/art/imprimer/546/

Signifigantly beats 3.2E. Only loosing in one bench, encoding of course, TMPGEnc 3.0 but wins VirtualDub / DiVX 5.2.1.
