Would you ever buy a vehicle that comes with digital dashboard?

there is just something very sexy about watching a tach needle swing up towards redline that a digital rpm meter cannot match, therefore i must stick with an analog dash.

what if the numbers slowly got closer from a yellow shade to a very bright red as you approached your redline? lol

meh. i need the swinging action. swinger baby!!!

BMW 5 series has a HUD that projects the image onto the windsheild itself - pretty damn innovative. You can either use the analog dashboard, or you can glance at the hud becuase it'll be right in front of you.

Corvettes have something like that

Lol - HUDS are such old technology. Even my 1989 Nissan Maxima had it as an option 😛

I prefer analog. With a sweeping needle, you can see the rate of change of something, say the vehicle's acceleration. With digital you just see a rapidly changing number.

Analog is, strictly from a visibilty standard, a better option. They tried digital speedometers in the late 80's/early 90's. Simply put, people found that you can glance at an analoge gague out of the corner of your eye and have an idea of what it says. With digital, you have to actually look at it and read it.

See: Early 90's oldsmobiles.

Well the digital display can have a bar of liquid crystal that light up in sequence in conjunction with a number; which would give user a sense of speed.
Of course the divisions should be small enough and the light is not too dim.

Like some car racing games' hud display

Although ti does not give you any benefit at all. It does look futuristic if that's what people are after

Again as I mentioned in my previous reply

There's nothing saying they couldn't have a digital /graphical representation of a analogue display. They could put in a TFT display that the driver could switch between any number of options, if people wanted it.

I don't care for digital readouts for RPM/MPH but I would prefer that the car have fuel economy info constantly being updated in a digital readout.

definitely. especially if it has the HUD projected on the windshield, a la corvette and bmw

I wish car makers would give more thought at having a myriad of HUD features besides speed, especially with GM cars and XM, and show the station, song, & title on the windshield 😀

that would be kickass - i'd spend upto $1000-$2000 more for that add-on

I have an 89 Blazer with the digitial dash .. the only thing left that works is the speedometer .. the tachometer seems to act more like an equalizer jumping from green, to yellow then red with the radio .. oh my.

The older 300ZX's had a cool digital dash.

What made it cool? Well you had the raised horizontal bar graph that showed the revs...but underneath it...there were vertical bars taht would show the throttle position. The more you pressed on the gas, the higher those bars would go.

I thought it was pretty cool.
