I'd rather run than risk my life in nearly any scenario (don't want to say every), if you die, chances are it's game-over, so i'd prefer running like a coward than dying as a hero.

I wear the uniform so that willingness to lose my life in the execution of a mission is a given.
For those that say "no", I sincerely regret that the sacrifice I and the others in the military are prepared to risk benefits your selfishness. As well, the firemen and police in this country have proved their mettle and willingness to risk their lives for others. Let's not forget them.

I think most ppl. here would only know the answer to that when they are actually face with the facts (words come easy).
And one thing should be made clear: The quetion should be more specific like:
a) You are told that you would will die but save america in the following mission (come to think of it, that sounds like the terrorist, I think very few of us would go into a suicide mission what ever the cause <good or bad>. That takes fanatism and a lot of balls.)
or
b) You join the army and stand the same risk of dieing as I do when I do 150Mph on a highway. (I guess its the latter that most ppl here say "HELL YES"- to).

I wouldn't die for my country. I would help any way I could, but actually taking arms and dying? Probably not. I'd be more than happy to program the missles that are used. I can't say I'd risk my life when this country is still fighting the war on drugs. Too many good people have lost their lives in the war on drugs to justify me giving my life to the country that has taken their lives.
Would I die for USA? No. Would I die for Finland? Yes.
And besides, by looking at the statistics, in case of war, the military might be the safest place to be.

I would. And I wouldn't consider it to be just dieing for the USA but I would think of it as dieing for my children and their children's freedom.

I don't know. The US has been pissing me off. We are changing, and therefore, I might change my opinion. It's not that I am afraid to die, it's just that when I look at the US, I'm not all that proud. If you look at our history, we have done some stupid sh|t. We make all these fantastic things, but not for a greater good, but our own self gain. Not saying that is wrong, but why would you die for a selfish country? As for all the goodness that is coming out of this country, you also see the perpetual ignorance that comes out of it too (idiots making death threats against Arab Americans, hate crimes, etc). I would go to war if I had to, but I wouldn't die a patriot.

! and we all know that swedes are wussies .Nah, seriously, statistics show that the number of civilian casualties have gone up in warfare. For example, in WW1 majority of those who died were soldiers. Not many civilians died. But in WW2 and soldier/civilian casualties was about 50/50. Dunno bout Korea and Vietnam, but I guess more civilians died there than soldiers did (correct me if I'm wrong)
WIthout question - that's why I signed on the dotted line. Do I want to die? No. Will I for my country? YES.
I'm not in the military, but if they needed and asked me to go.... I would be on the first flight, plane, train, bus out of here to help our country. Bloodshed to save freedom? Yes, its worth it. I would die for our children to have the freedom I have enjoyed my entire life.
BTW, I really wish Canada would join the US. They are almost part of our country any way. "The State of Canada."
