Would you date an HIV-infected person?

If you are aware of their condition and they do not [yet] have AIDS?

Keep in mind that through proper care you can avoid catching it. The risk is certainly higher than being around a non-infected person. Lets say that they are a relatively healthy person this bit aside.

If you are both educated on the subject, know what to avoid (open sores), double-wrap it and have some antiretroviral treatment at your disposal then you can interact without too much fear.

If the dangers were neutralized (as far as it could get--obviously not 100% but neither is arriving alive on your next commute) would you get with them?

We shouldn't be afraid to date them, but society has a certain kind of stigma that makes it seem too strange.

The odds of a guy getting it from a woman are really, really low... but I still think I wouldn't. It'd always be in the back of my mind.

Err, no. This is almost similar to the HSV-1 polls, except with HSV-1 80% of the population already has it, and out of those 80% only 20% show symptoms.

Sure, neither have a cure.. but with HIV+, you friggen die.

Thats like playing Russian Roulette.

Nope, under no circumstances. There are far too many healthy women and I'm not even remotely desperate. No sloppy thirds (fourths, fifths...) for halik.

1. If you're looking for long term, well there's not really a long term
2. If you're looking for a fling, theres much safer flings out there

Thats exactly why I posted this (due to the HSV-1 thread). It made me wonder how much a negative assocation HIV has with most people. HIV is very much looked down on (death part of AIDS aside--its just not accepted much by mainstream society as something less than what slvts/manwhores, africans and homosexuals have), whereas something like HSV-1 is even more easily transmitted but due to its mainstream popularity people think nothing of it (because it is likely they have it ;)).

Keep in mind people, I asked if the dangers of catching it were more or less neutralized would you date the person (and they were healthy, ala Magic Johnson).

The only problem with your logic is that HSV-1 will not kill you. It causes a minor inconvenience on 20% of the infected idividuals in the form of what is TYPICALLY (note typically before people start spawning horror stories, only the top 3% of people with the virus have bad or lasting outbreaks and all of those can be controlled by medication) a week long cold sore on your lip.

HIV is a god-damn ticking timebomb to the end of your lifespan. HUGE difference there in my opinion.

The problem with neutralizing is that it involves things like wearing a condom for the rest of your life. And it also involves living with the knowledge that if you slip up just once, you'll be an outcast for the rest of your life/take constant medication for the rest of your life/will have to pay a fortune for that medication/will probably never get a non-hiv girl again/will probably die early and be really sick a lot while you're still alive....

That's nothing like the risks associated with cold sores where you probably already have it, would probably never know if you did get it, costs almost nothing to treat, and most other people have it too.

Not really, One persons virus maybe more or less immune to different meds.
