At any rate, I think for the most part the notion of a fetus being a person rather than a group of cells is due mostly to religion.

Ummm, no. The notion of a fetus being a person rather than a group of cells has to do with the fact that it has a beating heart, a fully functioning brain, a fully developed nervous system, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, fingers, toes, elbows, knees, sleep cycles, etc., etc., etc.

At least if you are talking about a fetus past the gestational age of 8 weeks.

Do I get to kill the person administering the pill to kill that baby.

ABORTION IS M U R D E R Plain and simple.

So you'd kill a girl who was taking the pill to prevent getting pregnant (not taking the morning after pill) or the guy who wears a condom to keep from getting a girl pregnant. How about the mother of several children who will die if she brings a child to full term?

Wow. :Q

I'm glad that you're so ready to go out and kill random people to show your support of your beliefs. A real credit to the phrase "love they neighbor" or even "thou shalt not kill".

It prevents an egg from being released an fertilized...so no

Actually, IIRC, if taken in larger doses "the morning after", it can cause a fertilized egg to not develop any further...

I'm not sure of the specific mechanism though..

It prevents the fertilized egg from implanting itself into the uterus wall. The growing child falls right out and dies.

You bring up a good point - at which point does it cease to be a mass of tissues and become a living human being? For me the answer to that is at birth, or possibly a few months before, as, with a little help, a premature baby can survive outside the womb. There are a certain few I'd say deserve abortion as late as 12 years though, see sig 😉

*sirens blaring* Code blue, we have a fundie. Repeat, we have a fundie

😛

I'll avoid the flamebait and ask a seroius question though, why is abortion murder when not having sex, using a condom, etc. isn't? Shouldn't you be having sex with as many women as possible, even if it means rape, to avoid murder? It amounts to the same thing.

omg I bleed every month for one week. i must be pro abortion. yay!

No, you must be pro-choice. You choose to waste that egg; to not be pregnant as often as possible throughout your reproductive cycle (~15-50). Obviously there's nothing wrong with not having 40-50 kids; I'm trying to point out how absurd the anti-abortion argument is. Most people against it really only seek power for themselves and their religion. If it weren't abortion they'd feel as adamantly about some other issue.
