Would you consider this ideal for your computer?

Hell no. I want a desk that I can comfortably stretch my feet out underneath. I think computer hutches are dumb, no room to spread out or get at the back of your system easily.

Not for mine. My speakers would be too large, and I have a Wacom tablet which I prefer to use on a desk surface (currently my keyboard tray, with my keyboard sitting on the desk). I also have a scanner which I think would have to go out of sitting reach.

Plus, I wouldn't like to feel as if I'm working inside a small wardrobe. I guess I just prefer desks.

Mark my words - you would never close the doors and hide away the mess. I'd only buy one of those if I didn't have a room to put my computer in and I felt that I needed to hide all of my clutter when guests come.

Same. Except maybe add just a few more profanities in foreign languages just for good measure.

Pro: It doesn't take up a huge amount of space

Con: It's ugly, impractical and awkward to use

A friend I had once had something very similar. I didn't like it.
1) The thing was rarely closed and thus looked uglier than a real desk intended for computers (defeating the purpose of an enclosed cabinet).
2) The thing was awkward to use. I don't know about that particular model but my friends' cabinet wouldn't open the doors very far and thus made it difficult to get multiple people around the comptuer. Looking at that IKEA picture, it may very well have the same problem (see how the doors are sticking out quite a bit right where someone would sit if multiple people were using it).
3) Lack of deskspace means it is very difficult to actually do something productive. I can't count the number of times I've needed a book or at least a piece of scratch paper while doing homework or even playing games (I like to find optimal playing strategies on paper).

One server should have no problem being in there. But you won't want to expand much. That thing is essentially a wood coffin - no where for the heat to go. I could imagine many people with a server may eventually want 2 or 3 of them in the same enclosure. With all that wood acting as insulation, I'd suspect things may go bad if you ever wanted to go that route.

Looks a tad cramped to me but if a corner space is all you have then it could be worse. Also looks expensive for IKEA's usual offerings.

In that case, it's even dumber. Since it's for a server, you need ventilation as pointed out.

So here's what you do if you want Wood-Grained Elegance for your porn sta... I mean, your "database." 😛

1) Get or make a cheap end-table style one.
2) Cut holes in the bottom.
3) Cut a series of slim vents at the top rear, underneath the "overhang" edge.
4) ...
5) What else - Profit!

maybe if i had like a weak low end pc that other people could use, and not touch my baby, i'd use something like that so i wouldn't have to look at it most days.

But for my main rig (or a server) the answer is no.
