i commute . . . . 1 hour is the 'upper limit' for me . . . . i used to commute 90 miles each way [1-1/2 hours - there was no traffic] but it was too tiring.

Just figure you are working a 10 hour day
(for 8 hours pay) ;)

I just transfered to a job that is 1 hour away.
Of course, by the end of the month we will move and it will only be 15 minutes away.

i just took up a job at the airport, and it's 1+ hour commute each way, and it wouldn't be so bad if only my shifts weren't short 4 hour shifts (part time)..

..but I do it because the pay/benefits/work environment are unmatched compared to what I would get if I worked within the city.

i'm about 1 hour 15 minutes each way. there's a guy in the cube next to me that lives two blocks from our office. I get up at 530 every day and he gets up around 8 to get there at the same time. planning around the train schedule sucks.

my dad does it, has done it for his whole career (25 yrsISH)- its not pretty on your car, need a good lasting one like a Civic or something, cheap repairsish and good, long lasting. But its not too bad a drive, all highway

Exactly. When the music's going in the morning, it really puts me in the right mood. I used to listen to sports talk shows when my dad took me to school but ever since I started driving myself and listening to music, it really puts me in a good mood for some reason.

driving - probably not

Yep. :)

same for me.

I used to have a 2 hour one-way commute (only 20 minutes on the way home since I was almost always able to get a ride). it wasn't too bad, though, since I could read or sleep on the train/boat.

Yes...it's not that bad except for all the speeding tickets I got. I had 1 speeding ticket in 5 years of having a license and got 5 in an 8 month period...

Actually, I did it for 10 months. 3 months of it I was working for free and spending 12 bucks a day in gas alone...

It was all worth it though as the job was awesome and I'm getting way more than market value now. I also moved closer...within 20 minutes.

I have a 1 hour commute, but it's 15-20 minutes of drive time in the burbs, and then 40-50 min train ride into the city.

I have been commuting an hour to/from work since last October when I moved. I really don't like the commute, however, that's because of real estate prices closer to work.

I got a townhouse in a semi-decent area now.
Anywhere closer to work, and the same amount of money would have gotten me a condo with no good place for my grill, and the condo would be several hundred square feet smaller then the townhouse, as well as no laundry in the unit.

I don't recommend commuting an hour if you can avoid it, however, it's not the end of the world.
