Would you change your ISP if given a viable (though a little costlier) alternative?

Hell yeah.

If it were faster upload and more reliable I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I hate the crap Charter cable I have.

And besides, my work pays for my home internet 🙂

Probably not if I'd be spending more.

I'd switch if I could get a lower cost, slower speed ISP, like going from cable 6/1.5 to DSL 1.5/.768.

Having done just that... see my Knology sucks thread. Mmm... 25Mbps/1Mbps for $29.95/mo. I <3 Mediacom (for now).

i wish u-verse didn't have crap upload speeds. if the speeds were more competitive with fios i would jump on the u-verse train.

I have Comcast. I'm happy with the service, but it's too expensive. I voted no, but if I could get a significantly cheaper service, I'd switch
Did you get the insert pamphlet with your recent bill? They have an economy tier of service at $24.95 mo w/cable or $39.95 without.

It's 1Mbps/384Kbps which may not suit your needs. I only mention it because they don't promote it.

I'll look into that. I don't usually open my bills; I pay everything online. The $40 plan would save me $30 per month, but damn, the drop in speed would be tremendous. I currently have 8mbps down, and I think it's 1.5mbps up.

Only for something a lot faster. ATT has been good to me for the most part. They got a little bitchy when I didn't pay my bill and it took a whole month to get my service restarted, but since then I've been good. Moved to a new neighborhood, closer to a CO, and now I get 6mbit service for 45$/month. They'd have to start throttling my torrents or something like that to get me to switch to cable and even then, it'd have to be for much faster service and no bandwidth cap.

I'd pay more for faster service no matter which company it comes from so long as they don't throttle or impose a d/l cap.

I have ATT Uverse. I would not change ISP's if I had a more expensive alternative.
I would only change ISP's if there was a LESS expensive alternative that had no monthly cap as well as, more upstream bandwidth and more downstream bandwidth. It would help if there was at least 1 static IP as well.
