Internal job opening, other department is more stressful (back to talking to customers) however possible small raise (5-10% ish). However the other department offers overtime. Was told my a few friends in that department basically all the OT you can handle. Some are working 72 hours a week!

I went ahead and applied. Had a few interview and waiting for the final yes or no. (I can still accept or deny)

Current job in the past four years have had close to zero OT. Current department is more specialized but much smaller. Both are I.T. jobs.

And no I am not of one the 100k a year ATOT lol.

When you're young, money > time and stress. As you get older, you'd rather get back that time and worry less.

Go after the money while you still feel like chasing it.

I would give up money to have less stress and more time with family. Really depends on where you are salary wise and if you are cutting it.

I just gave up a customer facing job for an internal role, with a 5% pay increase and still all the overtime I could ask for.

Yeah my Uncle told me to also follow the money. Going back to school right now full time for higher wages in long run. That was making me over think if the new job would be worth the stress. Going to school full time in Jan. Was going 3/4 time in fall and pulled a 4.0. Long as I stay sane the money will come in handy!

Side note, current job hours change every three months. We have shift bids every three months. Where as the other location does it every 6-9 months.

My last switch in the same company was for more work, more stress, and no more pay. Work and stress levels are still acceptable, the job is more interesting, and I'm learning a ton that will help get the next job.

I gave up a customer facing higher status job (Level 3 server tech) for a same pay scale lower status non customer facing job (NOC). Been there a year and love it. The pay is actually higher because of the shift work. Sunday differentials, night differentials and way more chance of doing over time. Over time tends to come in large chunks too. I got called in last Sunday. That's 12 hours over time + Sunday differential. Anything over 6 hours is double time. Adds up quick!

If someone is sick it's quite possible to work several days in a row of overtime.

I compared with my last year's total income and I made like 10k extra this year despite the job being the exact same pay scale.

As for the OP situation, it would take more than that to get me to go back to customer facing. Once you're not customer facing, it's really hard to go back. It's nice to be in a corner doing your job without worries. Actually I do sometimes talk to customers at my current job, but it's much less frequent.
