Would you buy from Ebay if PayPal was not an option?

Has PayPal become the defacto standard? There are a few sellers that don't take PayPal directly (does PayPal still mail a check to the seller as an option???). Just wondering if anybody would send a M.O. or Cert. Chk. anymore....

I sold through ebay for over 3 years when checks and money orders were the defacto standard for small/occasional sellers. There was more inconvenience (running to the bank, waiting on funds), but the process worked.

I used to sell with only Cashier's check or money order until I discovered Paypal. Now I won't sell without it due to the increased amount of hits and excessive bidding in comparison.

Granted, Paypal has it's fair share of problems and people who take advantage of them, but the majority of people that use it are honest and 95% of my transactions have been smooth sailing.

Only way I would even consider ebay (which I don't) would be if paypal WASN'T involved.

Paypal has got to be the worst payment system from the consumer's standpoint there can be. The only rule paypal has is that you're going to get screwed. They weaseled out of the FTC's opinion that they are not a financial institution and as such they are not bound by the rules of such institutions (like manditory FDIC insurance on accounts, and other important consumer protections).

Basically - if you give paypal your money, you're doing just that - giving it to them. Put it in their system and it's theirs.

I am thinking of not accepting paypal anymore in my auctions because I clearly state I do not accept credit card payments via paypal in ALL of them, however ebayers never listen to this and pay with a credit card. Then they wonder why I refund their money. Angers me.

I use PayPal 90% of the time, I bought a part last week from a guy in Canada that only wants MO or check. It's turning into a huge PITA, I wish he would just take PayPal.

Oh well, I need the part & it's a bitch to find so I'll do it.

Certainly.

I prefer checks/money orders anyway, but you can't beat paypal's speed and convienence sometimes.

Exactly..which sucks because most of my auctions are around $100-500 items..and when someone uses a credit card, it takes away a percentage, not a set fee.

I'll use either (MO or Paypal). Been using Paypal for years and have never had a problem. I prefer Paypal because it is instant and usually facilitates a quick transaction.

I refuse to buy from sellers who only accept paypal. I much prefer to send a US postal money order though certified or registered mail. Sure, it's a little slower but by explicitly using US mail to conduct at least part of the transaction, the USPS will put a postal inspector on the case if something goes wrong. IMO, the added safety net is worth the inconvenience.
