Would you buy an XFX card? (FX5200)

The cheapest DX9 capable card I get is the XFX here in argentina, it has 128 bits, 128 DDR. But I´m not sure about the XFX brand... is it so bad?

No, the brand isn't bad. The entire FX5200 line is. 😛

If you want any manner of performance, get at least the new FX5600 Ultra. A Radeon 9500 is cheaper.

If you just want a cheapo card though, the FX5200 isn't terrible. It's certainly a step up from an MX-series.

The fact is that here in Argentina prices are very different.
This XFX is U$S 105, and the cheapest Ti4200 (really fast card), is about U$S 180... Ati 9500 are about 220 dollars....
So, by the way, instad of buying a 9100, I get an FX5200 with DX9....
have you read this article: http://tech-report.com/etc/2003q2/detonator-fx/index.x?pg=1
about the 44.03 and the FX cards... With the 43.45 these FX cards were crap, but with the new drivers, these cards are now competitive at least with the 9000 Pro.

Thanks guys.

i would buy one. i am one of the few that think it is a decent card. but my 4200 will last me till at least nv45 or maybe even nv50. rember that a 5200 is a value card, not a high end card.

i second this thought. XFX is ok, but no point in a 5200... either get a Radeon 9000Pro or GF4 4200 for that kind of money.

The XFX brand is pretty good,I remember reading one review of a GF4 XFX card and they were very impressed with the image quality they even rated it better then the Gainward model in that particular review.

I would have to agree with the others if you can get a GF4 Ti4200 then go for it,however if you`ve your heart set on a FX 5200 then you can`t go wrong with XFX .

Doom III and Half Life 2!

they won't be DX9 (I don't think so, at least).
plus, lets be realistic, the FX5200 won't run any DX9 games faster than a slide show.

I would still go for the Radeon 9100 over the 5200 non-ultra, even with the better Nvidia drivers. I agree the new drivers bring the card up the 9000 Pro levels, but still underperforms the 9100. And around here, the 9100s are still a lot cheaper than tha 5200 non-ultras, so it makes it an easy decision. Of course, that may be different in Argentina. I also don't think the DX9 issue will matter much ... by the time any games come out with DX9, these cards will be the absolute minimum specs anyway.

Edit: P.S., the XFX brand seems to be half-way decent (high-end version of Pine, which was crap).
