Thanks for all the replies, very good points. We're going to take a look at the mattress and bed at the couple's house tonight (already promised we'd stop by), but now I'm leaning towards the Costco mattress and a foam topper (great suggestion!). Thanks for the feedback!
If you do end up buying the Costco mattress, sleep in it a week without the topper and see what you think. I was gonna get a topper of some sort for mine too, but after sleeping in it I decided to skip it.

BTW, no stains, odors, rips, etc. on my mattress either... it's not a good indicator. :D

I would buy one new if you can afford it. Buying used mattress is risky. Not sure if you like laying in someone's dried pee or the sort. Plus do they have pets? Do they smoke? all considerations when buying used

There was an article in a magazine stating the 10 things you should not buy used.
It included a matress also a laptops.

You never know if the person's kid made lake michagan on it. LOL

You people are such snobs! There is nothing wrong with a used mattress, except that the price is about ten times higher than it should be in this case.

That's what bed sheets are for you pansies.

There was an article on MSN a while ago about the 10 things you never buy used and #1 or #2 was a mattress.

I think the Weekly World News and WWE Digest both both out less trashy articles than MSN.

My wife and I recently bought a sealy posturpedic with pillowtops. The mattress cost about a grand.
I wouldn't give it up for the world. It's the best 1000 bucks I've ever spent.

Yeah. Buying a used matress is a "safety hazard". That's why once you remove the plastic cover on a matress, you can't return it.
