I buy used cars from auctions and then drive them into the ground. I'll probably be replacing my 1993 Ford Escort within the next couple of years.

What do you think about buying a used Focus?

I did.
Bought a 2K wagon with 14K miles for 14K.
I've had a couple of notices from FORD, but the dealer fixed them right away and the reduction in fuel costs have kept me happy.
I like it.
BTW, as far as "roomy" goes....
I'm 6'1", @ 210 lbs and I've driven to San Diego from SF with no ill effects.

I would buy a 2001 or newer Hyundai Elantra before getting a Focus.

Ouch. That's harsh, dude! 😀

how is that harsh.. thats the exact same advice i'd give.. the quality on both of those cars is excellent (better than Fords). I'd take a sentra over a focus any day of the week.

Ford Focus = teh obnoxiously fugly + poor quality. Probably gets good mileage though for it's 15,000 mile life expectancy.

I'm at 40K plus.
I've put 25K of them on there.
No rattles, no funny noises, just 4 big chipmunks whirling that little wheel around.....
Still getting over 30mpg with regular gas, regardless of speed.
