would you buy a ps3 for god of war 3?

No, $560 for one game is silly.

I bought mine for blu-ray, an eventual library of PS3 games, and PS2 backwards compatibility for when my PS2 slim dies someday.

I'll probably be buying the "new 65nm design that will hopefully be more reliable" xbox partly for Mass Effect, but also for Crackdown, Dead Rising, Earth Defense Force 2017, etc.

No, no one game is worth a console purchase, that is just silly.

I bought mine for Heavenly Sword, MGS4, FF franchise, more Japanesesque games, blu-ray, Rachet and Clank, the next EyeToy, GoW franchise, GT franchise, and Time Crisis 4. All these reasons are worth $450 I spent for the console in my opinion. Home, LittleBigPlant, Infamous, Eight Days, and others I haven't mentioned are icing on the cake. Since I never owned a PS nor a PS2, I get to play all the AAA games I have missed too.

As far as GoW3 according to IGN.com:

The "next chapter" in the God of War franchise, this game has been confirmed as something that series creator David Jaffe has begun kicking around ideas on. Naturally, this is something everybody who has followed sales numbers or enjoyed the previous blockbuster hits has been expecting. The game, however, is still in the very earliest stages of design, and it is unknown which directions the series will take from here. It is also unknown what platform the series will continue on, although the obvious answer is that part 3 will arrive on PlayStation 3.

I plan on buying a PS3, when the PS4 comes out. I'm sure there will be plenty of exclusives too good to pass up.
I'm tempted to buy a PS2 for the same reason. god of war 1 & 2 are a blast. It's even a good spectator game.

I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for GoW3, but if I didn't own one when it was released, I'd probably talk myself into finally buying one. I'd also take that opportunity to play some of the previously released games that I had been wanting to play, but couldn't justify the cost of the system.

First GoW was ok, second was horribly boring, and I don't really have any desire to see a third. I'll buy a PS3 when at least 5 games I want to play are released. So far I'm waiting on Lair, MGS4, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, and some others that won't be released for a long long time.

One game is not enough to get me to buy a system. When the PS3 has a decent library of games I"ll pick one up.

No, I didn't like God of War to begin with, so I doubt a sequel to a game I didn't like would make me buy a console 😛.

If God of War 3 was some type of multiplayer game that had replayability, then I could see myself getting the system around that time when it came out.

That is genreally speaking with any console though. I don't think I'd ever buy a console strictly for a single player game. Well atleast not a console that is $500 - $600.

The only one game that would actually make people people buy this thing is a full-fledged FFVII remake.

GOW3 alone? Hell no. Coupled with MGS4 & a few others, still probably not, but maybe. I can't play all the games I own enough as it is between the 360, cube (getting a Wii sometime soon), PS2 & my PC (just upgraded my video card).

GOW3 will be an amazing game though, I am sure of it. I am sure they will also somewhat drastically change the game... keep a similar fighting engine, but change other elements... I gotta say though, I am not really excited about the fact this game will be on this architecture. No-one has been able to tap into the potential of this shit yet!!

I wouldn't buy any system for 1 game alone, even one as potentially great as God of War 3.

As for Heavenly Sword, my first impression is that it's not as good as God of War. I wasn't overly impressed with the demo, but the demo is based on very old build of the game. Also, the demo was waaay to short. You don't even have any time to really learn the combos and such. The demo was actually a lot more enjoyable the second time through though since I was a bit more familiar with the combat. Of course, that also meant the demo was even shorter because I tore through it so fast. I defeated the second big group of guys in 1 move.... LOL.

Blu-Ray was the killer app for me, but Resistance is a very good FPS, and I just finished God of War, and liked it. The Mario bros part of the game play I could do without, but it did add difficulty and need for concentration. Some of it was clever too. Ikeep seeing these posts that GoW 2 wasn't so good, I think I'll wait for it to hit $20 used before getting it then. 🙁 Still, GoW 3 in HD sounds like a good time to me. With epic cut scenes like in the first, better CGI, in HD, yeah mon! 😀

Drooling at the thought.

Pfft, give me Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger remade in some hi-res 3D and I'll buy one. None of that hippy FF7 crap though.
