Would you buy a non-clear (yellow, pink, blue) diamond for an engagement ring?

These diamonds are MUCH more rare than the clear diamonds.

but i wouldn't buy an off-color diamond as an engagement ring. people would think what kind of funky ring did you buy her. then go into the explanation of the rarer off-color diamond.

would you buy one for your girl, or if you are a girl, would you wear it?

Yeah, most people would not understand the value for a colored diamond. Ultimately, whatever the girl wants is what really matters.

1) What she wants
2) Colored diamond. I personally wouldnt be buying a ring for my girl to show off to the world like some 2 dollar whore. I buy the ring for HER, and as long as she likes it and realizes the signifigance of it I'm completely happy. And when her friends go "eh, but look at MINE!" and its twice as big and 1/4 the quality.... I'll just smile.....

Exactly. The one I bought isnt the biggest, but it sparkles more than most. Big crappy diamonds look like glass that you stuck in a setting.

I'd get whatever would make GF/wife happy, but have some issues with diamonds in general, I'd try to talk them into another precious stone instead, but not to the point of upsetting her.

Anyone see the movie Beautiful Girls?

"I can't take that, it's brown!"

"It's Champagne, it's the latest thing!"

Agreed.

Worse case get a man made diamond. Cheaper and better looking.

Synthetic diamonds all the way. That's what my wife will be getting, I can afford a nicer stone for her and her friends won't know the difference if she never tells them.

They're not very widely sold from what I understand. I know of a jeweler near me who has them though, so I'm set :)

I recently went engagement ring shopping with a friend who was about to propose to his gf... the ring we settled on.. An emerald. She loved it, it's her favorite stone.

Maybe blue.

But if they're more expensive than normal ones, forget it.

We'd rather just go sapphire, which is her favorite stone anyway.......

Don't buy any diamond. Buy her a nice ring. Maybe platinum/gold with another more domestic stone.

When you buy diamonds you are supporting terrorists (including bin Laden's terrorist network).

i dont see the pt in a colored diamond.... u could get a topaz/sapphire/ruby/etc that would be basically the same colour and not as expensive (altho if someone bought me one i wouldnt complain :))

edit: except for yellow and brown diamonds, which are really ugly

Yellow diamonds aren't rare at all, they're more common than clear ones, and cheaper. Lower color grade diamonds go from yellow to brown, and there is a lot of swindling going on with blue diamonds as well, although off the top of my head I don't recall the knock off scam.

colored diamonds... no way! Most of them are enhanced anyway. It is rare to find a colored diamond that is even in it's color and doesnt have inclusions. Therefore, most of them are enhanced, which will depreciate the value, but a jeweler wouldnt tell you that!

colorless diamonds all the way.

:)

well... Ben Afleck payed 1.2mill for a 6.1 carat pink engagement ring. I suppose if it's good enough for Benifer then it's good enough for you? :)

The Ring - If your lucky you can probably find a copy for $14.95... she won't know the difference! lol, j/k.

Good call, at least a blue one would look like quality. Yellow just makes me think cheap. Pink, well i just don't like pink.

I would get a colored diamond for my girlfriend. She absolutely loves blue and pink. (she hates large stones since they make her fingers look awkward... She is a ring size of 4.) The rarity of the colored stones would be a nice supplement to ring size, if your girlfriend is like mine. It depends on the girl.
