Would you buy a house with this history?

This is from my hometown Mason, it's a good place to raise a family with great schools and amenities.

MASON - The Veillette house on Brackenview Court was appraised at about $360,000 -- but it sold today at a sheriff's auction for the minimum bid of $240,000.

The buyer -- and only bidder: Deutsche Bank, the bank that held the previous mortgage on the property.

A year ago, the house was the scene of one of the worst crimes in Mason's history. Michele Veillette stabbed his wife to death there, police say, and then set a fire that killed the couple's four children.

Veillette later committed suicide in jail before facing trial on capital murder charges.

Veillette owed $343,397 on the home.

Before today's auction, the bank spent another $156,000 repairing the fire damage to the house. There was no word yet on how soon the house might be sold.

The Enquirer will update this story.

I'd buy it if I could afford it.

the only "history" that might give me pause is if a house was used for dealing drugs, because who wants to risk some strung-out crack head showing up at your house at 3 am looking for a fix?

I'm not really a whole beleiver of the supernatural or ghosts, but I've seen enough wierd things that I can't explain to not want to live in a house that one woman stabbed and 4 kids burned in it.

I'd probably be creeped out by any weird noise or unexplained light that was turned on or off.

Plus just factor in the costs of repair and potential resale problems down the road and it's a solid "AVOID" in my book.

I agree with VI ... but I say HELL NO!

Even with repairs, I'd probably be occasionally reminded that four kids were burned alive there... that's not so cool.

I'm not superstitious, but there with be people that have the same concern as you when time come to rent/unload it.

IMHO, it is not worth the hassle there are other deals bound to come up for he year of 2009, keep looking.

After watching Supernatural, I'd hesitate living in there, but maybe after running salt along the perimeter and cast a Hoodoo protection spell. 😉

That'll buff right out.

It already did, they paid $156k for the repairs. Kinda surprised that they didn't just level it though. I bet it'll cost em way more in the long run to sell it.

I would love to own that house.

Being able to tell people that some lady and her 4 kids were murdered here would be so cool on Halloween.

And FWIW, I *DID* live in a house that had somebody die it when I was younger.

A guy was a smoker and fell asleep with a cigarette in his hand. It light the bed on fire, caught part of the house on fire and he died. When we were doing some remodeling in a room you could see some of scorching on the rafters.

And yes, there were some weird things that happend that I can't explain.

And that was with an old guy that that more or less died of stupidity. Not a mother and her kids that were murdered.

Personally, I wouldn't care. I didn't experience or witness any of the carnage.

On the other hand, being face-to-face with something like that would pretty much suck. From our local newspaper's site today:
Investigators in Butler County are investigating the suspicious death over the weekend of an unidentified man in Butler Township.

The body of a white male in his mid-20s was found Sunday morning in the basement of his residence at 100 Bessemer Ave., the coroner's office said.

The man had been shot in the head, according to township police.

The owner of the building, which is the former Lyndora Tattoo Shop, was showing the place to a potential buyer when he discovered the body under a tarp inside the basement.

That's probably a deal-killer right there.

But the memories...
