Would you buy a GTX 980 Ti Production OEM sample for $500 or not a good idea?

I was offered a so called Production OEM sample for $500 which is very tempting with stock speed 1000Mhz and boost 1200Mhz. Do you think its worth it or better wait for possible offers during Black Friday and used prices?

I'd wait. You don't know WHAT you are getting. And when you say offered, is this out of the back of a van, offered?

I agree... you have to validate the source, first.

As far as the used market... I don't think you are going to see many 980Ti's on the used market for some time.

Try negotiating.

Tell him it's possible to find a brand new GTX980Ti for nearly $600 but it has 3-year-warranty and a choice of a AAA game. Also, the reference blower card tends to run hotter and louder. Therefore, you'll only offer him $450. See what he says.

I remember ppl on the forums buying engineering samples in the past that turned out to be limited in ways that made them terrible buys. In one case it was a 7970 that was limited to 800 something shaders. We thought it was a bios issue, but no it was really limited to half the shaders or something, it could not be unlocked. They use these to test in specific tests so you really never know what you will get.

Production OEM sample? I would want a copy of the CPU-Z results to compare it to a std reference card. You are already ponying up $500. If you can scrounge up another $100 you can buy a new GTX980TI with warranty etc.

I would be real cautious.

If you can verify that it is exactly the same as a retail 980Ti with the same over locking room, then spend no more than 400-450 tops.

If you can't verify the above then spend no more than 300-350 tops.

Are these the ones being sold on reddit as the seller refuses to disclose the source of the supply?

He sells them with no box and the ASIC value is stated for the sale but has been discounting the 980Tis, 980 and even processors.
