Would you buy a display laptop at full price?

Office Depot put a laptop on sale that I really want and if you buy by Saturday, there's no interest for 18 months. However, every store around here is sold out and if you check online, it says "discontinued." The stores here say they may get more in but likely not. However, there is one store here who has the display model left. He said it hasn't been out long but that they aren't allowed to sell displays at discounted prices.

Just kind of wrestling with going for the display or going without. I really want this laptop but I'm just wary of buying something that's been booted, partially set up and then messed with my store shoppers.

Thoughts?
 
th reason why it wont be discounted is that all computers and laptops sold at B&Ms are sold under cost at whatever price you see.
 
are you afraid of how its set up or are you afraid of some part going bad?

if its just set up, just format the HD and start over. good as new.
 
if its THAT good of a deal and they can provide a upc for you...why not?
if its ghetto looking....well then..

I'm not really bothered with how it's setup, although I will say there's just something appealing about pulling it out of a sealed box and being the first to fire it up. But I think my biggest concern is just a laptop that has been sitting on a shelf where kids or whoever have "played" with it. I'm sure it hasn't suffered any damage but it's still tough to get past that aspect. I haven't seen it in person, just going by what the sales guy told me over the phone.

I wonder how much of a discount a display model warrants?
 
Our OD here offered a discount to me on a Thinkpad that was the display. They had it marked down pretty good to move it anyway, but I still passed.

It's the Toshiba M105-S3041. $699.99 plus tax up front/$499.99 after $200 MIR and no interest financing for 18 months.

Just a good laptop that suits my needs and the price is really fair at $499.99 for the specs: Centrino T1350, 512MB DDR2, 80GB HDD, 14.1", dual layer CD/DVD burner, etc.

I think I'm passing on the display based on the overwhelming "HELL NO" I'm seeing here. Just gonna call around today and see if one maybe came in on the daily shipment. I'd jump on their other deal which is $699.99 after MIR. But it's the same laptop other than having a 100GB HD. You're basically paying another $200 for a "free" all-in-one printer, a "free" spare 6-cell battery and 20 more GB's on the HDD. I wouldn't use the printer and I don't travel so I'd just sell the spare battery.
 
I bought my Sony laptop at OD last year, and the only one they had left was the display model. (got the original box, & all documentation no restore CD...it's "on the hard drive" ordered it from Sony for about $25.00 ) The manager knocked $250 off the price for buying the floor model, PLUS I still got the OD and Sony rebates. I used a fraction of what I saved to buy a 3 yr extended warranty to cover any potential problems that it might have. You can't tell it was a display model. It has no visible flaws.
I've bought other things there as demo or floor models with no problems, but the LEAST discount I've ever gotten was 10 or 15%.
 
Based on the fine print, it looks like a display discount would actually prevent me from getting the 18 months no interest. The small print under that says "18 months no interest for purchases totaling $499 or more, after discounts."

If that's the case, just knocking off enough to be under $499 after taxes may rule out the financing deal. I guess I'd have to have a talk with them to make sure I'd still get the no interest financing if they lowered the sale price since it would be under $499

a spare battery alone would cost around $100-150.....another $50 for 20gb doesn't seem horrible.

Nope, I'd have to have either a good extended warranty thrown in or something else to make it worth the risk.

 
At my store, if its theres a sale on laptops and we only have the display remaining, we won't give them any more money off. Since we got rid of our mail in rebates at officemax our sales prices have been pretty good.

Plus a laptop never sits on display for more than a few weeks, thanks to our innept (spelling?) buyers and supply chain.
