would you buy a classic car off ebay?

Only if i saw it in person and saw the title in the same of the seller before buying it.
Older Zs have a tendancy to rust and leak around the windshield and T-tops.

I'm still a bit antsy with buying anything worth over $100 on eBay, so No, I wouldn't buy a classic car there...

I have. Actually I've bought a few cars off ebay including 3 Zs.

Unlike the poster above I don't usually find rust around the T-tops or windshield. Of course I usually by southern and western cars.

my brother's best friend bought a 67 Chevy from a guy over Ebay. The body was in excellent shape but it needed a little mechanical work. Other than that he got a good deal for 3500 bucks

Yes; I drool over the 70-74 Plymouth Cudas' and Dodge Challengers at least once a month. 🙁 That's where 99% of those cars that are for sale are sold. On EBay...for stupidly high prices for a semi-cherry one.

I've seen a few good deals though. I.E. straight body, needs interior work, no engine/trans. That is what I want to do anyway; get a "nothing special" E-body and build a 440 taken out of a 1965 300C or a motorhome and make a sleeper.

Ooops, sorry I didnt mean rust around the t-tops and windshield, just rust in general. I have also seen several that leak around the windshield and t-tops.

well, rubber tends to rot, and newer cars leak around the roof glass sometimes too (see aphex's thread about his passat). i'd imagine that unless the car was pretty nicely taken care of most of the rubber in the car could use replacing.

i would have to check it out first and get it inspected if i have doubts. it also depends on seller's ratings.

i used to have a 72 240z. great car. the only issue was the twin SU's with the oil float. I had to fill the float every week or two to keep it tuned.
Also had a 280z with a chevy 327. great car.

would have to see it in person, make sure the title was in good shape and drive it or at least hear it run.

Would depend what I was looking for - if ultra rare or hard to find, Ebay is sometimes the only way. Plus for the unfortunate souls in the Great Salty North, it's the best place to find southern cars that aren't rusted all to hell.

I'm actually looking for a vehicle on Ebay right now, although it's not what anyone would consider a "classic car."

I would like to check anything I got out in person if at all possible though...I've also heard horror stories about Ebay car purchases.

A guy from England bought my uncles Model A off ebay. The guy paid all shipping plus extra to have my uncle crate it up. Was a pain in the rear but he made double of what he expected to get.

I bought a '65 Ford Pick Up off ebay.
just make sure you know what you are looking for. Where the common problems are on that make/model/year, have them snap pictures of EVERY part you want to see and question them thouroughly on what you want (need) to know

I bought a 2000 Grand Am off of e-bay about two years ago. For the same condition and the mileage the car would have been about $9500-10,000 here. I got it for $7200 from a dealer in WPB Florida, damn car was like brand new,two years old with only 35K miles.

It cost me an additional $250 for one way airfare and two hotel rooms and some gas. Well worth it IMO.

I bought a '69 Mach 1 off ebay. Get pictures of everything underneath the body. Frame, suspension, trunk, engine bay.
I recieved all the former owner records back to '75, so I know what had been replaced/worked on. I was very happy with the price I paid.
