Question Would you buy a card that's been used for Deep Learning?

A guy sent me an interesting proposition...a 2080ti FE card for $500 CDN ($375 USD), but it's been used for Deep Learning. I did a bit of a search but there isn't much out here about how this affects the card. Dumb idea?

It's just another compute workload, someone running DL for 8 hours a day won't have any more degradation than someone gaming on it for 8 hours a day. The big difference would be if it was someone who's company expensed it to muck around with DL and there's 20 hours on it, vs someone who's had it running 24/7 the last two years.

Even if it's the latter though, it's not the end of the world. That's a really good price, I'd probably jump on it.

Ok, thanks. I am going to meet him tomorrow to see if it works. What kind of tests would verify this? Just run a game with Afterburner and maybe GPU-z?

Never head of selling cards after DL,
I bought my 1060 after mining for 150$ (MSI GamingX 6gb 1060 ) and it works perfect
Mb i should watch for a new card after DL

Well, he could have been mining I suppose and is just lying about it. He has two cards for sale and that's what got me asking about it. Thus the pitfalls of used cards. To his credit, he did tell me I guess. It was bought off Amazon though and he says new, but I want to verify it wasn't one of those 'fake' cards from resellers, as unlikely as that may be.

That is a stupidly good price for a 2080TI right now. If I could confirm it was in fact a working 2080Ti and not a scam as you mentioned, I'd snap that card up fast.

If the card works, its highly unlikely anything will fail on the board this late in the game. The most abused component on there will likely be the fans/heatsink/paste, all of which are not costly or difficult to replace if need be.
