Would you buy a car from Enterprise?

I wouldn't.
1. Too many unknown drivers. I like to meet the person selling the car that way you can get an idea of what kind of care was put into the car. If it was a 45 year old guy that had it serviced at the dealership or a teenagers first car, etc.
2. A car rental place is going to want more than an individual. They have overhead costs, are well informed of what the car is worth and they have the money that they can wait until they get their price. An individual is less likely to know what the exact worth is and often times needs the money quickly and would be willing to take less.
3. Rentals are abused.

Buying some used rental cars is like marrying a prostitute, she might look ok on the outside, but you don't really know what you're getting on the inside until it's too late.

Actually, they have paid far less than anyone could actually buy that car for when new and they've made money off of it for a year or two by renting it out almost nonstop since it was new to people who couldn't possibly care less about it. Then they market it to suckers like the OP and others who've purchased previous rentals and make even more money on it because the rental agency has been depreciating it accordingly while they were making money on it.

Used car sales are big money makers for the rental companies if they know how to market them...if they don't or if they don't sell they ship them off to auction houses and probably break even or lose a bit on some of them...those are even worse cars to buy. I sure as fuck wouldn't buy one.

My car was totaled and I'm in the market for a new one. The budget is about $10k. I just turned my rental car in and it seemed nice (2005 VW Jetta) and the lady said they sell their cars for cheap. If they priced well I was thinking about looking into it, but I have reservations about buying a car that 50 people have driven. She said they were all inspected and certified, but I'm still wary.

Bought a 99 Altima from their fleet outlet in Indianapolis (if your gonna buy a car in Indy, check this place out)

Best deal and best car I ever owned, till the big crunch. Safe car too 😉

Many used cars at the dealerships are former rentals. The rental companies sell them at auction to the dealerships. If it's about a year old and just out of warranty (36K) it's likely a rental or a company car.
Like others have said have a mechanic check it out. Enterprise seems to keep their cars longer than other rental places.

VW are known for electrical problems.

My BIL and sister just picked up a Mazda CX9 that was a rental. They got a free 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a pretty good deal. So far (6 months or so) they've had no problems at all.

no, no, no, and no. do not buy rental cars. even if they were selling the car for half of market value, i'd have to think about it.

also, who the fuck rents five year old cars? i work for hertz and the supply of 08's is dwindling, '07 is unheard of.

i wouldnt get it because it's a newer VW. They're plagued with electrical gremlins.

also taco on 'the league' did a survey and found that 92% of people who drive a vw jetta are hot women. unless the op is of course, a hot woman. 😀

[the group watches an attractive female get into her car]
Taco: Hey Hey Hey. Check it out, check it out.
Ruxin: Wow...
Taco: What did I tell you? Hot girl, Volkswagen Jetta. It's a law, like water or dinosaurs.
Kevin: Not one of those things is a law, Taco.

for the right price, sure! There is a enterprise sales place around here, though I guess I would be weary of buying from there because it's a college town...

The neighbors kids never get to drive their parents car. Instead the parents put them in Enterprise or some other rental car. First thing they do is disconnect the speedometer cable or sensor. Then they have the 'Hell Car' which they drive through yards, ponds, and anything else they can dream up. They keep the car for about 2 weeks and on the last day, they run it through a car wash, put a little touch up paint on it, rehook up the speedometer sensor and return it with about 50 miles on it. I would never buy a rental car and this sort of thing happens all the time to both cheap and expensive cars.
