Would you be prowar if you had to send your child?

Ok for all the pro-war people on this board- would you still support this war if you had to send your eldest son to fight against Iraq? I'm truly curious.

I'm all for sending you.

Since I have already responded to another similar thread, I will make this short:

YES! All three of my boys, if needed.

In "To Sail Beyond The Sunset", Brian Smith said something about married men leaving the fighting to bachelors, whereupon if only the bachelors fought then married men had nothing to protect, or vaguely something to that effect.

Bah, sucky memory. 🙂

Just found out today that my cousin, who was supposed to be done with his service in July, has now been sent to the Middle East and won't be home until Feb of 2004. I'm still at that point where I don't know what to think, hell I don't even know where in the Middle East he's going.

But even with that, I still have mixed feelings.

Interesting question and much different than WWII climate where everyone joined up. I suspect many pro-war would reconsider if they are honest. However we are a volunteer force and every person in accepts the risk potential of going to war and untimatly it's the individual serving, not thier parents opinion which matters.

Yes, I would... Nothing would make me more proud than to have my children help free an oppressed people.

Since I don't have kids, I would go fight myself if I was asked. I could fly supply helicopters to the troops, or fly in relief supplies to remote areas.

: ) Hopper

If either of my boys joined, or were drafted into the military and a conflict occured which neccessitated them going to war, I would fully expect them to live up to their responsibility just as I have, my father has, and every other person whom has been called upon and didn't duck their responsibilities and run.

I would be a huge hypocrite if I supported a war - on principle - where people were dying and I didn't believe it was enough of a threat/morally justified to actually send myself/my children to fight alongside.

Equally I would be a hypocrite if I *didn't* support the war - and let my children (assuming they hold the same views as myself) be drafted.

I'm not going to be a hypocrite with anyone's lives.

So, what I'm saying is my belief system is bigger than this - I only make big decisions like that very carefully - so I can fully endorse them to that extent if need be.

You don't "let" your children get drafted. They get drafted. They go to war, jail, or out of country. You have no choice in the matter...

Read: let get drafted - as - do my best to stop them being drafted - even if that means breaking the law (to an extent obviously! I'm not going to kill someone, but just about everything else is game).

You can also try being a "conscientous objector" (probably spelt that wrong).

Why would you? There is no danger of the draft happening in this conflict. You are asking an irrelevant question.

They are asking. The military spends on average $7500 getting each recruit in advertising. As young as you are and as pro war as you are I don't see why you have'nt signed up yet?

It's a question regarding convictions, I never even mentioned the draft. I believe that makes your comment irrelevant.

If my hypothetical children were old enough to be drafted, that would be a choice they would have to make. If they wanted to fight in this war, I would be saddened because this is not a cause that I believe is worth American blood, but I wouldn't stop them. If they wanted to fight in a just war to protect our country then I would be proud.

I would still be prowar regardless. If I had a son or daughter who had to go fight though, I would join and go fight as well. There is no way I could send my child to go fight and not go myself.

This assuming they would let me despite my age, and assuming that my child had to fight.

I'm hardly old enough to have kids, let alone even join the military, so the question is pretty much meaningless to me. But, if I get out of college and the airforce lets fighter pilots get lasik surgery, then I plan on joining up myself for a few years, so take that as you will.

Yes. Why would I not? We have a duty to protect our citizens and I would fight myself if I had to. I look farther ahead than my next paycheck.
