i have a unique last name. i'm keeping it no matter what.

how can you have a unique last name? surely your parents/siblings had it too?

hahaha. It's gonna be funny when in 6 generations people have a last name consisting of about 8 hyphenated names.

if your gf/fiance refused to take your last name in marriage, could you still be with them?

My wife wouldn't have refused because we have common views on such things and without those similar views on life why the hell would we be in a relationship? You might think it's a "minor" thing but such a "minor" thing is one of the basic social conventions of our culture and if you dont' both share the same views on such basic parts of western european culture then what are you doing in a relationship?

I would probably be offended at first but i think i would get over it. Baker is a common last name after all

No. I come from a Chinese family, and in China, women don't change their names when they get married 😛 Of course, this creates some confusion, because my dad doesn't live with me and my mom, because he has a job in Pittsburgh, and we live in Indiana. So, it leads to people thinking that they're divorced...

My aunt solved this problem by marrying a Chinese guy with the same last name 😉

i dunno : i dont think it would matter so much that it's a deal breaker for me : but i would like her to i guess

<-- probally a little old fashioned.

Sometimes referred to as incest....

I could care less but I can't see how at the moment. I truly would in no way be offended, my parents on the other hand are a different story. 😛

man...talk about quoted for truth.

If the basics of culture are not agreed upon then its time to end the relationship.

I'd probably be weirded out if she did.

it seems like such a weird situation, and I know that if our positions were reversed, I definitely wouldn't want to change my last name, so why should I expect her to do so?

Because you both have been socially conditioned to do so?

fvck that 😛
