Would you be just as effective on a Linux desktop/laptop as a Win32 desktop/laptop?

Linux, where I currently am, does me very little use. Maybe at another company, at another time, it would be good, but not now.

However, because of the way our application is setup, its very much tied to Win32. If it was more tied to other open standards, I could probably get by with Linux. There are some applications that I don't know the equivalent of in Linux, but I'm sure I'd learn.

The software my company develops uses a Windows development environment, and runs only in Windows. Plus I use InstallShield Developer to make our installers, so it would be really tough to be on Linux.
