Would you be for or against a more streamlined government ID system?

Not really P&N since it's just theorizing.

Would you want a system where

Everyone gets a card
That card is your EVERYTHING
There are no more "credit cards"
There is no physical money
No drivers license
It's all on your personal identification card

Basically a more streamlined system. And there's also anti theft on the card that is unbeatable as well, so you won't worry about thieves. Maybe even some sort of red flag that goes off if you have a card other than your own or in addition to your own.

Edit: I wasn't very clear, sorry.

The entire system would be redone. The system wouldn't be as overall shitty as our current one. It would be completely different. No single president, but more of a council (too much sci-fi in my diet methinks).

Hell no, haven't even been fingerprinted. I trust the government as much as I trust a bum with my wallet.

Why the hell would I want to give the government that much access to so much personal information?

This thread and the one about federal transportation (and eliminating personal vehicles) has be gravely worried for the future of our Republic.

Assuming all the stipulations could be accomplished, I like the idea except the money part. I don't want my money in the same spot as my identification. It might be unbreakable, but it isn't unlosable... so when I leave the stupid thing in the vending machine or ATM, I am SOL.

Too much power for them to just cancel your life.

Our current system is bad enough as it is when it comes to privacy and lack of security. What you are suggesting would make things even easier when it comes to identity theft. We are no where close to being able to control that kind of system without some really serious risks.

On top of that you need to consider what there really is to gain with that kind of system. The pros come no where close to outweighing the cons. It is best to have the power split up quite a bit for now.

I think they should assign you your life upon birth. You are assigned your schools, you are assigned your job after schools, you are assigned your living quarters. Of course you are issued your, clothes and food rations as well.

Your life...streamlined.

hell no. it all may sound good on paper... sorta.. but like hell if i want all that control for the government. It would never work, and the cost to do it.. i don't even want to think about it because we have this retarded REAL ID crap going on.

Agree, this is some very scary sentiment that is only shared by a fringe. Let's keep it that way.

And cash will always reign supreme.

It's a shame that so many people forget that just because something could potentially be more "optimized" or "advanced" that it doesn't necessarily equate to a better life. Some things are best left alone to help preserve the idea of freedom. "Problem prevention" is another one which is often taken too far and just not worth it. *ahem* homeland security.

I voted yes. Not that I want it - I abhor the very notion. I voted yes to the poll question "Wave of the future?" since it will eventually happen - probably a diebold contract - but not in our lifetimes.

On the other hand, there are those who profess that the gov't (our elected leaders are the gov't) is doing the right thing now within the u.s. and abroad. So, don't know why some would consider a little bit more access to personal information to be offensive.

No, I like being hard to get.

And if it's forced, I'll go down kicking, stabbing, shooting and screaming.

We can never abandon physical money. There are a lot of people (myself included) who won't use any form of virtual currency or even banking. 100% of what I earn comes directly to my hands as cash, and stays there or is turned into things of real value (ie precious metals, or goods).

It's far too easy for third parties to interrupt or interfere with the flow of money otherwise. Accounts can be frozen, assets seized etc all with the push of a button (effectively).

If it's all I need to carry, count me in.

I don't see how a credit card is any different. The gubberment can view that data in real time if they want to. Certain administrations will have telecom companies warrantlessly wiretap you and then demand immunity for them

I would prefer they just tag us with an RFID unit at birth, that contains all our financial, health, and identification information.

Then I wouldn't have to swipe a card, enter my PIN, or confirm anything.

But the REAL ID is a step in the right direction. They just need to slowly transform the card into an FDA-approved implantable RFID.

Ya, but then the - "oh, can you get this one? I forgot my wallet" - trick won't work.
