Would you be emotionally depressed if you made a lot of money (like $250k-$1 million+)??

Ok let's say you had a house next to the lake (as in, your backyard = lake), with a mercedes, another mercedes, and a bmw... Inside you got like a surround sound room with a big friggin 61' TV and a projector and crap like that... Got everything you wanted (that you can get with $$$)

Would you be depressed and crap even though you were rich? (and your parents DO care for you in this case, and spend time with you).

Cause there's this guy, who is rich, yet weird, gets depressed easily, and then starts punching walls (at the mall, at a tennis wall, into anywhere)?... He's weak, yet he loves giving himself scabs on his knuckles...

So I'm just asking for an opinion on if you would be depressed if you were friggin rich.
If yall read up on my old threads, it's the same guy that WALKED to my friends to say g'dbye at midnight, and is seriously creeping me out.

Maybe he has social issues that money can't solve. Money isn't everything

While some might argue that rich people have less of a "right" to get depressed, depression tends to strike the rich and the poor fairly equally. The difference is that the rich get it young and the poor get it older.

Depression is a real illness. Sometimes you can't just choose to be happy and have it go away.

pfft, if i had so much money that i didn't know what to do with, which is the only logical reason why one could be depressed with so much money, that I would donate it to charaties or fund some kids to go to school (super lib. degrees like art or something.)

Money cant make you happy, no matter how many cars, or tv's, or whatever you buy.

It can if cars, tvs, and whatever you want makes you happy though! While it can't buy you pure happiness (sometimes, could for some people) it can get you pretty damn close!

He should buy a hot 'date' for the night. That should bring a smile to his face, even if just for 30 seconds...

You are only looking at the materialistic aspect of becoming rich. If you have money, you have room to do thing that are worthwhile. If I am rich I would definitely do some charity work such as starting a school in mainland China.

I would say he does not have everything he wants to buy with $$$.

Perhaps he should look into meeting with a psychiatrist and finding out if he should be medicated for his depression.

Well... I am not sure it would make me happier, but I would rather be a rich emo than a sad emo...

Money neither causes happiness, nor depression. Your friend's financial situation is irrelevant to the discussion of why he is depressed. Also how old are you guys? You mean that his parents have money right? (You just sound as if you guys are all ~13 or so, no offense)

This would cure your depression how? Seriously guys, money is nice to have, but it's far from the most important thing in a person's life...

/edit think of it this way: You've been given some obscene sum of cash (for the sake of argument lets call it 10 billion dollars) but you came about this fortune through the death of all of the members of your family and all of your friends. Sure you can buy Ferraris and yachts, but what does that do for you? Nothing. I hope that you can see my point here.

I'm not depressed now, so I'd probably not be depressed if I had tons of money. If you are rich, you have more time than a working class person to dedicate to your problems. If you can't solve your problems with all that time, you are a failure. It isn't about money, it is about time and not having to work FREES UP LOTS OF IT.

Just because someone doesn't have to work 9-5 doesn't mean they can sit around all day thinking about their problems... Good over-generalization though.

I saw a show on this, and apparently rich people (or kids of rich people) seem to be hit harder than most. You'd think they'd be happy with all that money, but they all said that when you can easily buy anything you want, nothing seems to have any value or give you satisfaction. You can buy everything in sight and still not be happy. One of the rich people said that most of his satisfaction came from getting there, but once he was rich, that satisfaction went away and he ended up giving money away to charity make himself feel good.

I guess money is only useful when it can make a difference in your life.

that is the biggest crock of sh1t I have ever heard in my life..

I'll tell you what give me some cash and I'll go back to traveling the world.. buying bikes and houses and cars and living life to its fullest...

having money is its own satisfaction.. and being a spender type personality I can never have enough.

Money can buy my happiness..
course then again I'm a lazy SOB that would prefer to sit at the pool/beach all day every day.. or in front of a PC...
techy beachbum 4 teh winz

The one important to always keep in mind with respect to those that pull in a nice income: They're working for it. Very few start out at a high income, and you can be guaranteed that there are many years of life-shortening work that preceded it. In addition, even at that income level it's rarely enough to allow you to simply retire unless you've been making that income for many years. Granted, if your income is very high and you maintain a lifestyle well below your means you shorten that period, but you're still killing yourself in the short-term for having that freedom later on.
