Speed Test

it is supposed to be at least 5 meg according my bell souths tech support (my isp)
every time i complain they send a tech guy out, tech guy says he fixed it, works fine for 2hours at 6meg speed, but always manages to go back to no more then 3 meg.
i am using a wirelessrouter, belkin wireless g. and yes i used multiple speed test sites.
it usually never goes above even the3 meg mark. and i "supposedly" have DSL Extreme 6.0

what would you do? i cant get any other isp other then dial-up

Have you tried connecting directly and testing the speed? (I assume you have, but you didn't state as much)

I would take this test and see do as it suggests. If the problem persists I would probably just lower my service to their 3mb package.

I figured as much, but ya never know lol :beer: I would go with what Pulse says.

Kind of odd that it only works when they send someone out, and then only for a limited time. That tells me there should be a way to fix it.

Just switch to their 3 MB plan... that way you still get the same speed but cheaper.

Wireless could be the problem, I get a solid 10mbit plugged into the router but only about 3mbit using wireless.

Definetely could be the wireless.

Also you could just have ****** lines in the area, I know when I reset my modem, it'll get great signal stats for a short while, then they'll drop down again to that the modem wouldn't be able to connect as fast.

What are the results of the MLT? Noise margins on upstream and downstream?

Could be on the fringe to be provisioned at the required symbol rates for those speeds - reliably.

EDIT: That said, sure I would accept it. Makes the 640k sync LEOSAT connection I have look sick - although my UL is higher.

You're probably beyond 8000 Ft from your telco's central office. Under 11000ft you can usually get 3.0, under 15000 1.5 service, and beyond that it's luck of the draw. Call your telco and ask what your loop length is. If they see it's longer than 8000 ft, they'll probably put you on a 3 meg or less profile. If you're less than 8000 ft, they may have you check your modem from the NID (the phone box on the outside of your house). If you get a better signal out there, the problem is going to be caused by inside wiring (missing/bad filter, bad phone jack, unfiltered alarm system, etc).

Hey, you're lucky. Where I live, the CO is approx 9000 ft from where I live, but the #$^*$# telecom company somehow makes the line approx 19000 ft. I get 784 kbps down, 280 kbps up.

Guess how much I pay for it? $50/month. Yeah, it sucks. But the other option is SBC yahoo which gets about 300 kbps up/down. Woohoo....

No I wouldn't accept that. I'd have dropped you as a customer. Sending a tech out is expensive.

You have no choice to accept it or not.
I'm going to assume that you know more about networking than "it's like a series of pipes", and should understand all of the factors that come into play with a DSL connection. If my assumption is wrong, then do some reading!

Does your SLA guarantee a certain speed? Most likely not so WYSIWYG unfortunately. This is why so many ISP say "up to" even though the "always right" customer may read it as "up yours", it is what it is. Could be worse. Hahah it can ALWAYS be worse.

Not so sure about the OP's test site. gave me 2.7mbps down 435kbps up. Using Time
warner RR, always get at least 6-6.5 down. 275-375 up from several other testing sites..
