Would a video camera survive sticking out of a window and recording while driving along the freeway at 50mph? I want to record a section of road today and I've been told that I should just record from inside of the car but I don't want to because of the glare and the raked windshield gives the camera a bad point of view.

There's video all over youtube of winds much much faster than that. It's not the wind that destroys the cam, it's you losing your grip or something the wind carrying flying into the cam that will break it.

Yeah, why not?

The only way the wind could destroy the camera is if it carries a piece of debris into it or blows it away. But just air flowing at it isn't going to cause damage.

I wouldn't stick your arm out the window with the camera and expect the camera to still be there when you pull your arm back in. Other than that, I don't see the problem.

Would it survive - Yes.

People have gone skydiving with pretty standard cameras. Granted the don't last that long...

This guy's camera seemed to do fine.

That camera is mounted low behind the windshield so not getting the full force of the wind, if any.

i doubt that 50-60mph would affect the camera unless it was dropped or operated in a downpour.
