BTW Morph you just took his bait.

As for the magic $489 figure, Turtle1 started this thread under their new alias. Be careful. ;)

Yeah, now I think I understand why the $485 number was used. That's about the price of a 1900XT which also beats the GTX512 in many games. I didn't take his bait though, I really do feel that the GTX512 is worth as much as the XTX, for someone that likes Nvidia cards anyway. Myself, I would save another 100 bucks and get a 1900XT over either of them.

The XT pulls ahead with AA/AF on, so i would probably pick the XT. Why would you buy a $500 Video Card and not run AA or AF?

The cards are similar in performance, with each winning in different games. If the 512gtx was 50 bucks cheaper than the XT I would buy it.

I would probably buy a aftermarket cooler for the XT so that would jack my overall cost up.

But don't you think the X1900XTX is worth at least $100.00 dollars more than the GTX512?

Do you honestly want the XTX to be 100 more, especially if the GTX is already 750? :disgust:

This post makes me feel so happy that I only lurk here, when in a dumb mood. Second time you have signalled turtle to come for a beating. You bunch are a weird, angry breed. Have so enjoyed Hardocp and b3d - the salesman comes gets ignored and goes away for weeks at a time. They actually write about vid cards and not each other. The only thing I don't get is why does anandtech let their vid forum become so unhelpful and useless? But don't let me ****** on your parade.

edit: very nice automatically deleted a word I regretted after posting it. :)

No, because X1900XT is faster for just a small chunk more. It'll most likely gain greater advantage in future games also.

You need to be more descript in your reponse since the cards split up the benchmarks pretty well as far as I can tell.

I don't get it...

As far as I can tell the X1900XT basically sweeps the competition...

You get it now

x1900xtx = 7800 gtx 512mb to me
I'd like to see how much bang for buck g71 will be..

I wouldn't buy it. It's not fast enough for me. Either X1900XT(X) now or 7900 GTX in a few weeks - the only viable options in my case.

I would buy the 7800 GTX 512 only if the price was at the current level of a standard, cheap GTX for some SLI action.

Ah, you misunderstood me. I meant if he thought that the GTX512 should be worth 100.00 less than the current price for the X1900XTX. I did not mean the X1900XTX should be 850.00. LOL. ;)

If you plan to keep you card for a fair amount of time, the 7800GTX 512 is bad purchase as it will only continue to fall further behind. If you like to upgrade with every refresh cycle, then it really doesn't matter.

Ah. Because developers are busy creating games for the huge user base of XTX users that have just the right amount of shader power to suit their needs, right?

LOL

If the 512mb GTX was selling for $485.99 from the start (and had availability) then I probably would have jumped on it. However, my personal opinion is that it is a bit late to even consider this model with what is out now and what is on the horizon.

No, because I think paying $485.99 for a video card is just plain crazy.

But that's just a matter of priorities.

I just got the email from evga to step up to the the 512gtx. I've been in the queue for the last 2 months. Its costing me $258 w/tax+shipping included to step up so im thinking of doing it
then ebay it and buy the x1900xtx or xt.

too bad u won't see 06 games at 1920x1080 4x AAA and 16x AF :(

Or he will never see any game @1920x1080 because his monitor doesn't support that resolution.

Of course they would, in the past, game developers have worked mutually with ATI and nVidia to better game's performance.

This is why there is the option in COD 2 where they ask you to optimize for SLI or not.

Yep. It's doubtful someone who won't spend more then $200 on a video card owns the kind of monitor needed to display 1920x1080 at a decent refresh rate.

I voted to wait for the 7900, since I'm not going to upgrade till sometime in March anyway. However If I was going to buy now I think I'd go for a X1900XT since. I think that games are going to become more like FEAR in the future. Plus I want to able to use AA and AF at high settings without much of a performance loss. Right now my higest AA setting is 4x :'(
