Would u run a Duron 700 @ 900 & Temp 59C?

I unlocked my duron today but have a problem.

I dont want to make my system any louder so was wondering if it be safe to run @ 900 & 59C 24/7.
As long as its within AMD's specs for this chip and stays stable i be happy. Heh, may even keep this room a little warmer this winter 😉

Ur thoughts be appreciated,

good god that's hot. i wouldn't do it, but if it runs that hot and keeps on goin, go for it. but remember, this may decrease the life of your cpu in the long run.
 
hmm, I wouldn't recommend it at all..
I was a little concerned about my setup & temps... what is it under a full load?
Mine jumps 10c under a full load, and yours would too..which would be way to high.
 
Its runnin RC5 24/7, 850mhz @ 57/58C with 1.65v at the moment.
Reckon might even do 900 with stock voltage 🙂

Heh, that Coolermaster coolers a waste of time, but i dont want anything noisier 🙁

Does amyone know what the max temp is for the duron?

Please bear in mind the temps above ARE at max load.

This is what I said in an earlier post.
"conditions can affect the temperature of the cpu and may I say it again temps are relative to the mobo/bios combo being used, different bios's different readings and also where the sensor actually is. If the wire is touching the core you will get good readings but if it's *cough* touching the heatsink the readings will not be very reliable. Just to give you an example, overclocers.com has a water cooling Duron vCore of 1.89 at 900 with 44C/111F idle and 48C/118F under load, so when people o/c and get 10c lower with stock heatsinks you eh... have to question it just a little."

Rockhard (that use to be my nic on eh whatever) did you apply compound to the cpu? and blurredvision is right this may reduce the life of you cpu, instead of it lasting 30 years you may only have 20 you should consider this. also what bios are you using? and what's your default temp?
 
Ive set it to run @ 800 at the moment and added a case fan to the front (starting to get too noisy for my liking 🙁 )
Now its running 51C under full load 🙂

Might look at getting a FOP32 and popping a Sanyo Denki fan on it.
Should do the trick all being well 🙂

Heh, its my living room puter but i just cant resist squeezing more out of it 😀

Silver compound, rig as my duron in sig, bios UL, probe under chip forcing chip slightly out of socket before being sprung down by chip then clamped 🙂

90 C is max from AMD White paper. Also consider there will be a safety factor of 25% on top of that. You should be fine.
 
No, 90c is for a Duron at STOCK voltage/speed. It is also the MAX temperature. I consider anything over 50c to be way too hot for normal, stable operations of a Duron. The Comp in my sig (Duron 600 @ 1ghz) peaks at 45c in Rc5. I have a poor case with 1 case fan, but have an Alpha Pal3065 w/ delta fan (replacing soon, too loud). I would recommend a better cooler if your going to run it overclocked.
 
Like most who have done this, you can drop major temp if you use bios 1003, enable PCI master read cache, and disable cpu cooling software. Bios 1004 will NOT let PCI MRC stay enabled for the Duron. I am running 34C/43C right now where prior I normally ran about 43C/54C. It does work.

As far as fans and heatsinks go; I have had good luck with the GLobal Win fop32-1 (cheap and quiet) and have heard good things about the alpha pal6035. I am currently using a copper hedgehog lapped smooth (no difference), Arctic Silver, and a YS 26cfm fan (off of the fop32). The copper heatsink didn't make enough difference for me to recommend it and its priciness over the above mentioned.
 
It's a $48 CPU, who cares if you shorten the life span of it from 8 years to 4 years? If it doesn't lock up on you, then forget it. Temperature readings are too variable to be compared from different computers and you're well within the AMD spec at 57C, whether it is overclocked or not. 90C is 90C whether you are running at 600, 700 or 900. I assume you at least have an AMD approved HS/Fan and you've checked to ensure it is properly seated on the core?

If it will make everyone feel better, bend the temp probe a millimeter or two away from the CPU and then you'll be running nice and cool 🙂
 
59C is a bit too hot but I would have no problem running it as long as its stable. A duron 700 for $100 is a great value for 900mhz, even if it only last six months it would have been money well spent.

If im goin to play with it then may as well go the full hog 😀

I had it runnin @ 850 1.65 stable but Prime95 errored out after 10 mins 🙁
Have just ordered a FOP32 so with 0.2v still to play with 950 may be possible 🙂 (fingers crossed)

The different temp readings on the A7V has nothing to do with your real temp. The reason you get different reading from bios 1.02 or whatever and 1.04 is because they make the reading more accurate. The cpu temp is still the same. The different bios just gives your the more accurate reading. Bios 1.02 was innacurate for the cpu temp.
