I doubt this would be the case, but when gaming, since games are more tailored for NVIDIA cards, would you miss out on any gfx goodies when using say a RADEON 9800 pro that you would otherwise get if using an equivalent or top of the line NVIDIA card?

In Splinter Cell you miss the highest quality shadows with ATi parts which are there even on the NV2X boards from nVidia. This isn't due to SplinterCell being aimed at nVidia graphics cards, it is due to the fact that the game was XBox native. The effect they use in SC for the highest quality shadows isn't directly supported by DirectX, although obviously it is possible using the API. Other then that I can't think of any other instance where nV is rendering any effect ATi isn't(there was a problem with NeverWinterNights and some shader effects some time ago, but that was fixed with a patch).

bummer. You recoken this will be a trend in games in future, given most games are being developed for XBOX and PS2 first

ps2 would be a port for either nvidia or ati, so that doesn't matter.

There will always be slight differences because each card does its task differently. But you would have to be really anal to choose one card over another just because you might miss out on some very minor detail in one game that you will probably not even notice when playing.

Slight differences will always appear in games. Two companies and consequently two different architectures.
And game developers will always optimize their products for the one or the other, if that's what you mean.
If not, it's funny to talk about missing gfx or ati stuff. Just stick to performance and image quality to compare them my friend, if you want my opinion.

LOMAC, IL-2 FB, Raven shield, GR and all other games that aren't funded by nvidia will have higher IQ and some with truform-Halflife2 as well.

the FX59xx series looks piss poor with equivalent IQ in all the games I've played when compared to a 9800xt-and I've run plenty of both to see the difference.

godspeed lad.

Athough there may be differences in some games. I doubt you'll be stopping all the time to see if you can find them. Would be hard to know if you only had a computer and no one told you about them.

...interesting, however, I believe you are wrong.

I believe you are wrong because I'm hereing it from you first. I read a lot of reviews and noone has caught on, but you have. IQ is very similar between the two companies.

For Splinter Cell, there is a rather huge difference. The shadows on ATi's boards look very poor in comparsion to nV. That said, I wouldn't advise that you pick up a particular board because of missing features in one game.
