Would it be feasable to have an SATA 36GB 10k RPM drive to store my OS and applications on and a 80GB USB 2.0 HD to store my files on? Or should I go with both internal? Anyone know if a 10k and a 7.2k RPM would work okay together?

that should work just fine. and there are no problems mixing newer hds with different rotational speeds.

Go with the Internal as it'll be much Faster (esp ATA100)

Not to mention much cheaper.
 
hi,
i'd also vote for the internal unless you have a pressing need to transfer large files and no other way to do it.
 
The only reason to get a slow external HD is if you need to move it around a lot, such as if it had very sensitive data on it or used to transfer files.
