Would this work with a Blue Rhino propane tank?

I'm thinking about this contraption: Flame Torch

From the pictures, the end connectors on the hose do not seem familiar. To anyone who has more familiarity of the pictures, does it look like I can use a propane tank from a grocery store to work this thing?

Wow, I was going to say that it was a pretty good price - they go for around $40 at the local stores that carry them. Then, I saw the shipping.

Thanks, HappyPuppy!

Yeah... the description is deceptive. Only $24.90, but then shipping is close to $20. I'm browsing Flame Engineer's website to see if they have any products that fit my needs.

Just outta curiosity, what are your needs? I'd love to play with a flamethrower of sorts, I just don't know what I'd do with it. :(

I roasted a whole pig recently, but the skin was not crispy enough. I figured I can torch the skin to do so quickly.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll keep my eyes for coupons.

Bummer! I just read the manual for the Harbor Freight flame torch. It includes the following warning:

22. WARNING! The brass components of this product contain lead, a chemical
known to the State of California to cause birth defects (or other reproductive harm). (California Health & Safety Code 25249.5, et seq.)

23. WARNING! This product, when used with propane fuel, produces chemicals
known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects (or other reproductive harm). (California Health & Safety Code 25249.5, et seq.)

Hmm... I just realized that my Charbroil grill uses brass burners. Do all brass burners have lead in them? Also, anyone know what cancerous chemicals are produced when using this contraption?

Careful! That looks like a POL fitting and all the new tanks use ACME fittings so it won't work out of the box. You can get around this by replacing the end fitting. Just be SURE to follow basic low pressure LPG rules as to regarding application of PTFE, etc. If not find someone that does so you don't get "the new look". ;)

PTFE? I don't think I'll like the new look. ;-)

Flamethrowers are proof that some time, some where, somebody said to themselves, "You know, I'd really like to set that guy on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

That's what they make the tape out of that seals tapered threads. PTFE short for Polytetrafluoroethylene, common (trade) name is Teflon. :)

Pro-tip (I used to be the glazer for honeybaked hams)

Use the torch with the flame tip barely touching the skin and drizzle sugar slowly and finely into the flame so it lands on the skin. After a few minutes you will have molten sugar flowing everywhere. Always keep the torch moving otherwise you'll burn the skin or sugar. Then sprinkle some spice mix or rub on it and hit it super fast with the torch.

Honey glazed piggy. Otherwise if you're trying to crisp it up still keep moving the torch, you can burn it easily.
