Meh, these guys are worse than the RIAA. Could be considered property damage & they are just trying to cash in on it. Buying their funky labels, when they want you to fight the big music labels....

Well, if a station has a limited amount of purchasable air time and the big labels pay more, which means getting the spots, and ultimately paying to keep independents off the air who can't compete. ;)

no, labels send out cds to radio stations and pay to get singles on the air.

getting a song on the radio is what sells the cd, why would a radio station pay to promote music?

I've just heard that radio stations pay like 5 cents for each song they play. I mean, the music is copyrighted...it only seems right that radio stations would have to pay some royalties to play it.

Because for the labels to pay radio stations for airplay is an illegal practice called payola.

No, if your a label, why would you make a company pay you for your own advertising?

Well wouldn't radio stations normally like to play the popular stuff? I think they would rather pay to play stuff that gets them viewers rather than not pay for anything and play horrible music

Radio airplay is not supposed to be advertising. That's why radio stations run commercial advertisements for operating revenue. The music played is supposed to be that which the station thinks its listeners want to hear. Not what the record companies pay them to play.

i dunno what the law can do, but it's a sure way to get banned from Wal-Mart.

Once banned, subsequent entry can be processed as trespass.

How much money do you think they make from advertising? Each ad is only voice, and is only seconds long. And do you really think we really want to hear Britney Spears 10x a day on the same station? And every station? Um no.

Payola is one of those seedy things that runs the industry I guess. I'd be delighted if Clear Channel actually stopped using Indies, but I have my doubts. The music business has been run this way for a long time.

For those who want to read up more on the subject, and like good conspiracy themes and mafia ties, checkout Hit Men.
