that's what horns are for

Damned right. It's one thing to wait while kids load/unload...but sitting while the bus driver chats with some MILF...Fuck that...lay on the gawd-damned horn...unless you drive one of those Japanese cars with the tinny sissy horn...in which case you might as well just send them a sternly worded note.

Why should you pay (time) for someone else's child?
like funding local public schools from your property tax, even if you dont have children?

seems like thats where you should focus your complaint instead of 5 min lost one day on a commute...

Well, sometime we can cut people some slack. A new resident parked in my spot at my apartments and I had to park in guest parking. We could have had them towed but instead we left a note on their car to let them know not to park there. What if the bus driver gets fired or something? Worth it? Don't think so.

But the driver wasn't driving.

Do you know "about" the time when the bus goes through that area?

Try leaving a little early to beat the bus.

Complaining about children is not going to get your anywhere.

You ignored his question. The OP is right, the bus driver should have turned off the stop sign if no children were getting on or off the bus.

I probably would have honked... I don't think I could have been able to control myself for 5 minutes.

I was on my way to work this morning and got stuck behind a school bus. At the next stop the bus stopped and the kid got on. The bus driver and parent then proceeded to have a 4-5 minute conversation while the bus kept the red lights on, holding up all the traffic on the road.

I got pretty frustrated. If you want to have a conversation at least turn off your lights so everyone else can get on with their day - esp during rush hour!

Lights on or not, it is illegal to pass a school bus.

What? I don't think that is true at all. They often let cars pass them if there is a back up (Although I've never seen this bus driver do that. Hmmm....). Sometimes they pull off to the side of the road and sometimes not
