Would this bother you?

I was on my way to work this morning and got stuck behind a school bus. At the next stop the bus stopped and the kid got on. The bus driver and parent then proceeded to have a 4-5 minute conversation while the bus kept the red lights on, holding up all the traffic on the road.

I got pretty frustrated. If you want to have a conversation at least turn off your lights so everyone else can get on with their day - esp during rush hour!

Yes it would bother me, but we have to favor the children.

Your daily commute to work is nothing compared to the rest of that childs life.

You dont like being behind a school bus, leave a few minutes earlier.

 So you are somehow equating the rest of that child's life with a 4-5 minute conversation between the bus driver and parent while the child was already safely on the bus?

The mother could be addressing a bullying issue?

Issue with the childs safety?

Special needs the child has, such as seizures?

Ok - so turn the lights off and let traffic pass then. What about the parent behind me on her way to school to address a bullying issue? Or a child safety issue?

Do you know "about" the time when the bus goes through that area?

Try leaving a little early to beat the bus.

Complaining about children is not going to get your anywhere.

I got stuck behind a bus for about 3 mins today while the bus waited for a kid to get ready and come out.

Have to be careful with this one. I don't know where you live, or if many other places/school districts have similar rules, but some require the bus driver to not let the child off the bus unless there is someone there to meet them. Sometimes there is a driver and a moderator (part of moderator's responsibility is to make sure the person meeting the child when they get off this the right one) and maybe this parent was advising there would be someone other than the normal person waiting for their child in the afternoon.

Roll with it.

But no, it wouldn't bother me to the extent it seems to have irritated you.

It would bother me a little sure, what they did is unconsidered and selfish to other people around them.

I would probably give it a little honk to remind them how unconsidered they were....if they persisted I would've wrote down the plate and reported it to Bus Company (but that would literally had to be 5 min, and I think OP is over exaggerating).

Would it piss me off? Yes, it would. Though in the grand scheme of things, an extra 5 minutes out of my day isn't a huge deal.

Way back when, a bus would stop in our neighborhood and just sit in front of an apartment complex, waiting for dumb ass kids. Yeah, 5 minutes.

Yea, it pisses me off a lot. There's no reason for that to happen, and it's self entitled cunts that think the world revolves around, and serves them exclusively that engage in the practice. They're the same people that park over the line, leave shopping carts sitting in the lot, and walk side by side down the sidewalk. The world's there to serve them, and if you don't like it, you can fuck yourself.

why not get rid of those stupid lights and stop signs on a bus and replace them with catapults instead?

Leaving at the time that I do offers me the best opportunity to avoid buses given my required work schedule. It was early. I am not complaining about being stuck behind a bus as that happens from time to time - I am wondering if other people would be bothered by being behind a bus that picks up a kid and then stays stopped, holding up traffic, to talk to a parent for 5 minutes

And my what anywhere?

(but that would literally had to be 5 min, and I think OP is over exaggerating).

Sadly no - Sirius Octane started Sweet Dreams by MM after the stop and the song finished while I was still waiting. That song is almost 5 min long.

if you run over the parents (hell make a game of it) they won't be there next time... but you won't be either depending on your cop evasion skills.

but yeah, they should turn off the lights and wave you through.

Yes it would bother me - at that point it was no longer a child safety issue but a 'share the road' or 'good driver' issue - the conversation could have continued with the lights off to allow others behind the bus to skirt the bus and go ahead, as you'd do if any regular vehicle in front of you blocked you.

But at the same time, hopefully this was just a single occasion; you could (should) complain if you see this more often, but it is just as likely that the driver and the parent were arguing/discussing about things than simply talking weather and the driver just forgot the lights.

I honestly can't stand school buses.
I do rural commuting because there are no major highways connecting the town where I work and the city where I live, and on the most major rural highway buses just stop right in the middle of the road and pickup kids. I just can't understand why they're allowed to stop on a highway. Why not drop offs at concessions? Everything slows down and then obviously the bus goes either right on or slightly below the limit, wasting even more time.

I wish I could just uneventfully drive to work without having to worry about stopping on the god damn highway every morning.

Your scenario though is uncalled for. I would have used lots of horn after a minute or 2.

This is why I'm glad I'm going into work during off-peak periods. There's still traffic, just not as much of it.

Out in Toronto, the streetcars are even more of a menace than the buses. The tracks are built in the centre lanes, so they have to stop TWO lanes of traffic to let people on and off. They're noisy, dangerous, hold up traffic, but the downtowners won't part with them. Some weird nostalgia thing in their sea of ultra-modern condos I guess. They should have switched to trolleybuses years ago like Vancouver did.

In the OP's case, I would definitely be on that horn.

i wouldn't be happy with myself about it, but yeah it would irk me. I'm all for being extra careful around children, but they need to be respectful of other peoples time too.
