Go in, remove part of the code so that nothing works.

When he asks for your help to fix it, just say "I would, but apparently you wrote the code."

Totally busted, and his stuff won't get fixed unless he fesses up.

I would be waiting for him with a baseball bat. I hope you inserted copyright info in your code before giving it to him.

he probably meant that he setup the web site, no that he wrote the picture gallery code

if he is a good friend, just talk to him about it and get it out in the open

if he is just an aquantance, then give him the shaft, call one of those late night TV lawyers and do the lawsuit thing

The code has the line "# WebGallery 2.0 Copyright 2003, Tyler Karaszewski." at the top, but it's really not a copyright issue per se, but an issue of giving credit. I just couldn't think of a better way to word the title. I will talk to him about it.

Maybe he didn't really mean anything by it? He wanted to let everyone know it's custom software w/o going into details and (unfortunately) thought it would be easiest to just say he worte it himself.

just a question:

do you know if he has made any improvements or other changes to the code since installation?

EDIT: btw, it would bother me quite a bit. especially if the person was a friend.

Send him an e-mail stating that you are appalled by the fact that he is trying to pass off your hard work as his own. Ask him to remove that statement that he is the creator of the script. If he does not comply, I'd simply remove the software off of his site if you have access to his site.

That's a bunch of crap. Since you wrote the code originally, I think I'd go in a a drop him a few bugs... Maybe a run-time error that will print some text calling him out as the plagiarist he is. If it's object-oriented code, insert the above idea by referencing a new class while making all attributes and methods private so he can't even undo your changes without your help!

Use you imagination... have fun!!

Upload some kind of backend into the code that allows you to disable it if you fill in the upload form with a certain string of characters. (Just in case he decides to take away your root access without giving you credit for the code).

Then, just talk to him and say that he shouldn't have taken credit for your work, and that you'll put up a copyright notice at the bottom of the page.

tell him that you didn;t like it and ask him to send out emails saying that it was your work and you want a copy right thing on each page. and if he says no then just take out his server, cuz thats bullshit, or go get it copyrighted and make him pay money for it. Stand up for your self, and he's not a friend if he just uses you

Yes, that would piss me off.

But I think you should try to settle it peacefully first. Just let him know that his claiming credit for your work was dishonest and uncalled for.
