If they are smashing the mailbox then the camera is going to get owned to. You need to hide the camera on the ground or something.

The only problem with a mailbox secure enough to withstand a baseball bat is it can lead to you being sued because you are not allowed to make them that tough in case of a car hitting it and injuring the people.

I bought my dad a bat proof one for Christmas last year. They sell them at Home Depot. The picture on the front showed a dude breaking a Louisville Slugger over it. Thing weighed like 30lbs and was made of 1/8 inch thick steel. That thing is solid and it'll be the last mailbox he ever needs to buy.

And if a jogger steps on one and it goes through their shoe and into their foot you'll get your ass sued off.

thats why it is wireless, sending the video to a pc inside which is recording.

or mount it on a nearby fence or something, just make sure it covers the required viewing angle

A week or two later he woke up and found half a baseball bat laying on the ground by the mailbox. There was no visible damage to the mailbox.

A few years later, a construction crew backed into the mailbox with their backhoe. Again, no visible damage to the mailbox.

Props to your grandpa!

A friend of mine did something like this because neighborhood kids were driving around crashing mailboxes down. One night they tried it again on his mailbox and ended up totalling their truck. He saw it a few blocks down the road. That's payback.

Cars shouldn't be leaving the road and entering or destroying private property. Their problem.

The problem is mailboxes usually are on the side of the road that does not belong to you but to the city and as d33pt said above legally his friend could had gotten into trouble since his mailbox was illegally modified and if they had called the police on him they would have had a lawsuit they could had won.

Sure it sucks when kids do that but you have to realize that you are not allowed to do that kind of stuff because of the fact it can damage vehicle's and injure people.

Here is some of the info about this:

And while it can vary depending on your state normally if they find the mailbox is illegal they will hold you for breaking the laws if anyone was to get injured because of it.

There have been cases where kids have broke their arms while hitting mailboxes with bats and while they get charged with vandalism they have been able to sue the owners over it and won decent amount of money for it.

Sucks how people can destroy your property but the law protects them. I'd want to put some kind of trap/device to ensure they get harmed very badly. It sucks that it's illegal to do harm to people that should not be on your property to begin with, specially considering they're damaging it.

It's like if you were to set traps at your windows in case someone breaks in, like a censor with high power gamma lazer rays and mirrors. It's illegal, but imo that's stupid. You should be allowed to do whatever the hell you want to protect your property from idiots. If these idiots die then good, one less crook in the world to worry about.

Though I suppose if you hide the fact that it was intentional you may get away with it, but even then. It's like our front yard has a cement walk way with stairs and sometimes skateboarders use it. If they were to get hurt we'd get sued. It's retarded how it works.

Here is something someone did that can cause serious damage if a vehicle was to hit it.

Look at the posts on the same page a ways down to see how it looks in the ground.
