Is this an entry level position for a recent IT/IS graduate without any related job experience? This company saw my resume and asked if I would be interested in this position but it seems like something that would require at least 3+ years experience and I have 0. I definitely want a position that would allow advancement to become a DBA but I know you gotta start somewhere really low just not sure if this is the right job to start. I only have some experience is in some self-taught PHP/MySQL and a general Database Management Systems course emphasizing in Oracle.

Experience with SQL is required. Excellent communication and organization. Business Objects and other reporting tools experience preferred. Erwin experience preferred but will train. Prefer knowledge of SDLC.

I think if they ask you if you are interested in a job, that means they like what they saw and know what they are getting themselves into. Sounds like a good opportunity, go for it.

So if they tell me to reply with my salary history do I just tell them I had a $9/hr Data Entry position and a $10/hr Call Center Operator position?

Salary history is a strange question. Usually they ask for salary requirements.

Just lie about your salary history. Negociate and get yourself a good deal.

They saw your resume so they want you.

I would take it if I were you. It can be hard to gain an entry level job, so I would jump on the opportunity if I were you.

If you do not like it, you can always leave after a year or two and you will now have 2 years of experience on your resume.

I can tell you that in my current position, my 2 years experience in the real world has me looking for a new job, because I can make more money starting somewhere w/2 years experience than I can make here after 2 years.

Also about the salary thing, as I suggested in a recent thread I made about salaries requirements, the general consensus was that it's best to leave out the salary requirement until they have made an initial offer first. Just tell them that you feel you will be compensated fairly based on the market. Then if they really REALLY need a # from you, give them a very broad range.

good luck :thumbsup.

Heh it pays well because no one wants to do it. I do some DBA work, but thankfully it's only a small part of my day to day work heh.

I love playing with databases. I think a DBA job would be fun for me :)

No it isn't an entry level position from reading the description. But I wouldn't let that stop you. Sounds like they want you.

No it doesn't look very entry-level, and it is very possible that your resume got spit out of a word search that some HR person did who has absolutely no clue that you are probably not remotely qualified for the position. Just respond and be honest.
