I was considering building a new pc, and convert this one to a HTPC, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. I was considering upgrading my processor to a 1900xp from a 1 gig duron.

Here are the specs now
1 gig duron
512 meg ram pc133
80 meg hd
Pioneer DVR-105
ATI AIW 128

Here is what I do with it.
Caputure video with the AIW, Has audio/video synch problems with High quaility mpeg2
Crunch some dvds to divx
Very little gaming.

My big questions is how the 1900xp will affect the audio/video problem?

The reason for the 1900xp and not higher is my motherboard(shuttle ak11a) only supports Xps based on the palomenio(sp?) core, and the 1900 is the fastest I could find.

Thanks for the input, Todd

i think the increase cache and clock speed will help in your audio video work.
the question is will it be enough of a boost to resoplve your audio / video synch problesm...

do the palomenio cores support SSE extentions? if so, and your software does, you might get an added boost thru that too. :)
1900+ aren't very expensive so i would say yep to it being a worthy upgrade.

If you're planning on using the same case, I would hold out, wait for some more case and buy a new Shuttle. Because truthfully, in a few more months you'll be looking to upgrade again because Palominos are already getting quite dated. Try going for 1700+ Thoroughbreds or higher with an nForce2 chipset from Shuttle, they come with pretty decent OC options now. Anyway, if you're looking for good efficient capture/conversion, you should look into investing in a faster HTPC for much better quality. My 2.4B captures better than my 1.6A with a faster hard drive and more RAM, and that wasn't that big of an upgrade.

I think the 1900XP would definitely help the encoding from a Duron and as mention they aren't that much or the Shuttle may be able to take the 1700XP T-Bred there and work, just not support it.

Ichyi, while I would like to make a big upgrade at this point its just not going to happen. When I do make that upgrade I am hoping to go dual athlon or maybe even an Athlon64 depending on when I do it. The 1900 is a stop gap to milk hopefully a year out of this system. Most of the time is spent surfing the net on dial-up, so I really don't need the speed but a little more Horse power for some stuff would be nice.

Any advise on a HSF for the 1900, no o/c involved
