I was wondering, if I were to get an oscilloscope as a birthday present, would that be a nerdy present?


Also btw, tell me somethings you'd do with an oscilloscope that you normally wouldn't have been able to do otherwise? 😀
 
...umm. they're pretty damn expensive to give someone as a casual gift. why the hell would you give that as a gift, as any company would just give it to the guy for work anyways.
 
I always wanted a spectrum analyzer, but getting someone to give you a 10,000 dollar piece of scientific equipment that they don't have a clue as to what the purpose of is can be pretty difficult.
 
does this even need to be asked? or are you just showing off your new oscilloscope? :|

I don't do electronics as a hobby anymore, but if I did it would have been very handy.

Naw I was at frys yesterday and I was looking at some of the oscilloscopes, one was $10K but most were much cheaper than that, I believe $1K<..... If I could get one however, not sure if I should get an analog or digital one.... hmm

You think thats impressive, you should check out their selection of electronics components like little ICs, connectors, wires, etc. Stuff thats is really meant for use in electronics. They've got lots of stuff I never would have thought would be there, unfortunately, because they're vague like the human body, they only have a wide range of things with nothing particularly 'high end'.

Example while they do have FLuke multimeters or some Core Duo processors, they don't really have any good power supplies and carry a LOT of generic power supplies like raidmax, ULTRA etc, I was extremely lucky to be able to get the S12 650w power supply while I was there trying to find a way to spend my $100 'birthday present' from 2 years ago... LOL

They sell a lot of really overpriced test equipment and really really old passives. The one here in Arlington TX has passives in packages that look like theyve been on the shelf and not touched since the store opened ( maybe 10+ years I dont know ). But they're fairly cheap for the convenience.
